Need some advice as I'm having trouble deciding.
Currently we run a Kyocera laser printer which over the past 10 years has given faultless service and a Canon inkjet that has been remarkably adequate.
The Laser is on it's last legs and the colour printer doesn't print quality enough to do photo's. We could really do with freeing up some space too and I'm wondering if colour lasers make econimic sense?
The laser currently prints say 50 - 100 pages a week and the colour gets used hardly ever, although it it was quality enough I'm sure it would get used more.

Has anyone done this type of merge before - is the colour from a laser good enough for photo's? Is toner prohibitively expensive - drums?
The beauty of the Kyocera is that it has a drum for life.

TIA

My opinion from using various colour lasers is that they're great for adding colour to presentations and things along those lines. I wouldn't ever use one to print photos though.

And when you compare the cost of a decent mono laser with a decent colour laser, the difference will more than cover a high quality (A3 if it's desirable) photo inkjet and another desk/table to put it on if necessary.

LexSport is spot on.

Colour lasers are not up to photo printing at the moment.

Buy a decent mono laser and an inkjet. And a shelf.

Even better idea....

Buy a Samsung ML1510 from PC World/Staples for £49.99, toner refills are only £12 and will last for ages.

Use the Kodak Picture Centres at Tesco/Asda/Jessops to print photos. They only work out at 5-10p each and are far superior than all but the most expensive photo printers around.

After doing that you'll probably have enogh money left for an extension too!

PC World are listing the ML1510 @ £99.99 oddly, thing is it only comes with 2mb memory and 600dpi.
Might be worth a look though.
cheers.

Try Staples, PC World, and a number of other places had them advertised in the national papers for £49.99.

Been having a look round, the Kyocera is my printer of choice, I have print server boxes (Axis) so I don't need a network ready one.
The Kyocera is £200 but I just spotted a Dell 1700 for £173 - looks very good value.

For an inkjet, check out the Canon IP3000. Very good for the money. Seen it printing out photos, nice

I just bought a Samsung CLP-500 (colour laser with duplex unit) from PCWorld for £199. It's good, but it's not really at the same level as inkjets for photos though. Plus it's a beast of a printer that I struggled to fit in the Tuscan (had to de-box it just to stand a chance of getting it home).

Yep space is a premium for us so it'll have to be compact too.
Looks like I'll scrap the colour laser idea, replace the Kyocera with another and worry about printing photo's later.
