Should I claim for my damage from insurance company too?

forgot about my excess, it's 250 so far more than a smart repair will be on a small scuff.
I'll just let him claim for his tiny ding and leave mine for now.
Any ideas as to how my premium due in march will go up?
Why? It should go through on the same claim. Check with your insurer but it shouldn't make any difference if you claim for the repairs to your car at the same time. It's one accident. If you're going to take a hit you may as well get your car fixed too. Silly not to really.I'll just let him claim for his tiny ding and leave mine for now.

I have 10= years protected no claims so in theory next years premium shouldn't increase because of this claim.
But I bet it does and it's disguised as a general increase for everyone etc etc. They always get you somehow.
It's not about them being out to get you. As I understand it NCB give you a discount on the base price. Using some made up numbers that may not bear any relation to reality, say the price is £1000 and 10 years NCB give a 75% discount, your premium will be £250.But I bet it does and it's disguised as a general increase for everyone etc etc. They always get you somehow.
Now you've had a claim, say the price rises to £2000. You still have your 10 years NCB still giving you a 75% discount, so your premium would now be £500.
So with protected NCB you still have a discount, it's just that it's discounted from a different price which takes into account the fact that you have made a claim.
That's my very basic understanding of it, anyway.

I don't think he pays any excess on the 3rd party claim though...
That would be pretty unusual.
te. That was my understanding from reading it somewhere on here but I'm sure one of the insurance boys will be along soon to clear it up. A 3rd party claim won't cause you to pay an excess but it will count as one of your 'lives' on your protected no claims though check through your policy or phone up for sure! With Aviva its 2 strikes and your out, they will maintain the no claims to that point but won't protect it for the period of I understand the year after. Other insurers don't appear to have that same caveat.

To echo what someone else said.
Protected no claims only protects the ncb, not the premium.
It can be transfered, it depends in the companies.
It is just a goodwill gesture I think, rather than any legal entitlement.
But, I'm pretty sure it's an offense to say you have 10 years ncb when you only have it because it was protected, and you did actually claim
This is probably why they ask you about claims and crashes in the last x years as well as asking about your ncb - it helps to spot any confusion.

Indeed thats the case on confused.com! Some companies won't protect it with severals claims (over a few years) others won't be bothered. Protected no claims only protects the ncb, not the premium.
