Have had an offer on my car from a chap in Spain and I have to say I am a little nervous.So far he tells me he wants the car and has asked for details to make payment.I have obviously refused to send him my bank details but I also wonder what is the best meyhod of payment.I hear stories of forged bankers drafts and so on.Shame really to export the car having looked around the weekend I think i've underpriced it.Forgot to mention this chap still shows a .co.uk address, is he having my pants down.

Steve[/quote]It is probably a scam. I had a similar one when I was advertising some second hand parts in the classified. I even got him to send me the draft which included 'shipping costs' of £4,250! He wanted me to bank the draft and issue a cheque to his 'shipper' who would collect the parts.

I have the draft checked out at the bank and it was forged.

I contacted the police AND THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED. All they had to do was arrive at my house and wait for the 'shipper', but it wasn't on their list of priorities for which they get brownie points from the Home Office.

Try an international letter of credit from a Spanish Bank. That way you have an official guarantor for the payment before you send the goods.

Once the goods arrive the letter of credit is then paid up in full.

Had about half a dozen e:mails today so far from this fella ,until I told him I would not let him have the car until the cheque has cleared,and also asked for a contact telephone number.A little annoyed realy, I had 4 people enquire about the car this weekend, two of which said they were on the way to see it but failed to show.What with this and what would appear to be some scumbag trying to rip me off I think I might take it to a dealer,and let them have it.It would appear good manners and honesty elude some people.

Report the email (with all the header info) to his email provider. They will investigate and remove the account ([e-mail]?).
I understand this makes life a little more difficult for the scammers-even if they do have hundreds of others they can use.

It's very likely a scam - a dealer in one country would rather deal with a dealer in another country, not a private individual. But I wouldn't recommend sending abusive emails - he maybe genuine (I sell two or three cars a year in this manner, where I don't meet the customer); or he maybe a really mean criminal (who knows where you live)!

I got a similar mail yesterday enquiring about "the car for sale" I have not advertised a car for sale for nearly 4 years!!. As he has not specified the car, I am tempted to embark on a wind up... reply reading something like:

Thank you for your mail, I currently have 3 cars on the market and you do not specify which one you are interested in, Is the the Ferrari Enzo, The Pagani Zonda or the Bugatti Royale etc etc...
