The general public who can't drive in the snow!
Discussion
So this morning I trudge into work in my car, ratty, battered, Honda Civic. Cirencester to Cheltenham. I had to go in otherwise its a days holiday or un paid. Anyway I get in extra early so I can leave early to try and avoid too much traffic and mayhem.
Whilst at work I keep an eye on the road reports. My usual way is up a rather large hill out of Cheltenham probably about half a mile long, any other way is a long way round and more likely to be chaos, pops up as closed. Which I knew was gonna happen. So time to leave work and get there before the Police are at the bottom stopping people from going up.
Get to the bottom, sure enough the Police Road Closed sign is out. Dodge round that and start to get a bit of run up so I can get some momentum. Get about half way, a few abandoned cars either side and a few people walking down the hill. Then some bloke waving his arms telling me to stop. I can see a lorry ahead which is stopped and so I stop for this bloke, who I think is gonna tell me the lorry is jack knifed ahead blocking the road, instead he tells me I won't get up the hill as no one has made it further than a few hundred yards ahead, also I now see the lorry isn't jack knifed. Cheers mate, I ain't gonna go much further now you've stopped me and I could have guessed by the Police sign at the bottom, helpful!
So I turn around to go back to the bottom as I can't go any further as matey boy made me stop and so I lost all momentum! Get to the bottom and start again with another run up. Get half way up again and this pleb is waving his arms at me again to tell me to stop, I just wind my window down and tell him I ain't stopping otherwise I won't get up the hill as I carry on past him keeping my speed up. Carry on up the hill dodging more abandoned cars and people turning around. Keeping a slow steady pace in third gear and second when needed I get up the hill quite easily for a nice empty road to drive home on. The technique to driving on snow really isn't that difficult is it?

Depends on the car and the tyres.
Until you have experienced the joys of driving a RWD BMW on 255 runflat tyres, you have no understanding of how awful some cars are. I had absolutely no problems driving my Impreza in the snow, but I literally struggle to get my Beemer off the drive. They really are that bad.

They really are dreadful in the snow with run flats. Until you have experienced the joys of driving a RWD BMW on 255 runflat tyres, you have no understanding of how awful some cars are. I had absolutely no problems driving my

That's why I used the TVR today, amazingly it's much better.

What's people's problem with the OP?
It read well enough to me, he obviously knows the road and fully expected the scenario he was in for.
Fair play I say.
So that's two of you wearing your underpants outside your trousers then!It read well enough to me, he obviously knows the road and fully expected the scenario he was in for.

Knowing the road, that's not a bad effort, although I imagine the stretch from the Air Balloon to Ciro might be a bit tricky where the big dip is just before the roundabout and Dual carriageway.
Agreed - and attempting that dip in the other direction would be even more tricky.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
