On booking my car in for an A service in a couple of weeks I've been informed by the dealer that Lotus recommend a cam belt change every 4 years now rather then 6 as previously.

Can anyone confirm this to be the case? I've tried a search but can't find anything on the subject

Cheers

PS passed the MOT this morning no probs

Yes, four years is the longest you can really safely leave the Cambelt according to Lotus now.

Fortunately I had my cambelt done last year when my head gasket went, so today's C service is going to be significantly cheaper than a normal C! (they'll do a B service + fuel filter).

Congrats on MOT - always a relief!

As far as I know that's correct. They also reduced the milage for the cambelt change somewhat. Was originally 54000 miles, but now around 45000 I think.

Don't know the exact new numbers, but perhaps someone else does..

Bye, Arno.

Cheers Guys

I'm nowhere near 45K yet but as car is now 5 years old I'll make sure it's done.

Sinclaires confirmed this to me also last week when I was there for a replacement 'rack. After 600miles this weekend I'm 1k off what should be an A service (27k) but they recommended to get the C done.

They'll stamp the book for you too as the C covers the points that the A would anyway, so nothing lost.

My MOT in Dec... I can't take it if it fails... not even thinking about it!

MOT,

DVO Five years old on Friday +83,000 miles FAILED the MOT

Only headlight adjustment though

Re Cam belt had the 81,000 mile last month advised by Specialised PW to have the cam belt at 45K mile intervals from now on thus next service should be A but will be C. Also a recommended by friend (TVR, Westfield, Citroen driver) to change the oil every 4.5K miles or 6 months.

Mmmmmh. My S2 111S service book still has the first 'C' service showing as due at 54K. Anyone know when the advice changed? Mine will be 2 years old next month and has done 27.K. At that kind of annual mileage I'd have thought 54K was OK. Although I usually have mine serviced every 8K rather than 9K, as I agree that oil should be changed more than once a year.
