Now, I've got nothing against a tastefully lowered car where quality components have been used and consideration to things like the handling of the car is shown. But I often come across 'for sale' adverts on car forums where the titles says something like 'Stanced and much lows...'! I'm probably getting old before my time but to me it just screams that this car has been Barry'd and more often then not when you click on the ad, it it's normally a car that looks like the suspension is completely collapsed! I've seen this in adverts for performance cars such as an e36 M3 Evo. So what it is it about taking a perfectly good M3 (or whatever car), slamming it to the ground so low that handling is no doubt going to be rubbish, that makes this cool? And is it just me, or does 'stanced, and much lows' sound stupid to anyone else!

Just felt like a rant about something not so important!

Each to their own, as long as its not done to the point it negatively effects the steering or grip. If you fk those up in the name of fashion, then you are retarded and shouldn't have a licence.

Fashion, and the importance of being seen to follow the crowd like a mindless sheep.

I don't mind the extreme lowering so much as the cars with ridiculous amounts of negative camber - which never looks good and screws up the way it drives - so it's just competitive stupidity!

I've got nothing against a correctly set up and fitted lowering kit, IE a set of matched springs and shocks from Spax/Koni etc which give an improvement in handling along with a mild drop of maybe 30-40mm, but when it gets to the stage where you're having to re-route your journeys to avoid certain speed bumps or taken to ridiculous extremes, I think Plod should step in and slap an 'unroadworthy' ticket on them.

Anyone remember this mong-tastic effort?

I don't have a clue about this as I have absolutely frik all interest in stanced cars, but, shirley, there must be some kind of uneven tyre wear involved. Only a guess, maybe I'm wrong.

It's 'Barrying' for the skinny jeans set, rather than the the Reebok Classic gang. They certainly trot out the same bks about being 'different'.

I'm 22, and I don't get it... But then I drive a Volvo (being lowered by 30mm along with some nice Bilsteins but I see this as a performance mod with some mild aesthetic benefit).

I'm 21 and really don't get it. Although I have to admit certain cars do look good lowered with the right springs.

I don't usually tend to criticise other people's modifications to their cars, but that is possibly the most horrific automotive thing I have ever seen. Please tell me it's not real!

^^^ That looks VERY much like a photoshop to me, look at the back wheel....

The Celica I posted is real enough though, it got a big write up on Retro Rides a while back. Needless to say they loved it...

It's just the current trend. Remember when Max Power was full of hatches with massive body kits? Yea, well this is the up to date version of that.

At least the massive body-kits didn't involve running cars on tyre contact patches the size of a bicycle's, and most of that part of the tyre that's designed to be the side-wall.

Pah! Lack of proper contact with the road is the least of your worries with a "slammed" car. You've got people cutting holes in chassis legs when the car is way too low and has the dirveshaft rubbing against them. People unleashing grinders on parts of the monocoque, tyres rubbing so hard they could in fact catch on fire.

Like with most things, when it's done properly, it can look great while not compromising the car's ability. Sadly, the internet and these "lifestyle yo" web sites have spread quicker than anyone could've imagined, and you've got 17 year old "Dangerous" Dave "stancing" his Polo 6N on his driveway armed with nothing but a grinder, a set of universal spacers and a set of highly questionable wheels.

It's all got just a bit silly. The competition to find out who has the larger penis by assessing the lowness of one's motor vehicle has long since got past the point of where it improves the car. People mainly do it for bragging rights.

To be honest they can whatever they like with their sheds, the word itself "stanced" annoys me! What a stupid thing to say.

Ah, scene fags.

Have you seen the stance competitions? Like proper petrolheads look to some form of time trailing to compare their creations, scene fags also have their events...

Okie, those look good, unlike most of the previous pics. A lot more subtle, workable, legal, safe. And sane.

The above examples remind me of when my neighbour's M5's rear suspension collapsed on one side.

So the idea is to try not to damage your bodywork? What a bizarre event.
