Has anyone here ever been issued a ticket or NIP for speeding detected by a speed camera in a classic Pre 1973 car in the UK with the correct for period black and silver or black and white plates? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Assuming you mean they are non reflective and the authorities wont be able to read the reg. plate?
They have the technology to alter thier picture to a negative and zoom in , so probably, yes.

I think they can catch you, there was a guy on the Alfa Forums who used a speed camera photo of his GTV as an avatar I'm pretty sure it had silver on black plates.

ANPR cameras may have trouble with those as they are supposed to not be able to read

different formats from the UK normsmile

sill love that photo.

As others have said, if the computer cannot read the 'plate then a human will try. and, comparatively there are very few cars with the older numberplates

I was quite impressed by the car park at Heathrow which read my Spitfire's front plate, it almost aims down at the road and is about ankle height! (Although it is black on white).

Never seen a numberplate on a spitfire before, or a spitfire at Heathrow either.

As others have said and proved, speed cameras can read the pre 73 black plates. The only speed ticket I've ever picked up was in my 71 Audi, a very nice picture of me bowling down the Hendon Rd early one Saturday.
Now there is a urban myth? That the London congestion charge cameras aren't geared up to read them. I'm not sure and have never tried not paying to test the system, perhaps someone can confirm?

I thought the same, however it is the date of registration that counts, not manufacture - so anything on or after 1 January 1973 needs black on yellow/white...

Yes, I wrote back saying it was illegible, which it was, they sent me a zoomed in enhanced version. Not cool, but they are perfectly photogenic.
