I had a quick look today in preperation, and to me it looks like the whole dash has to be pulled forward to access the nuts holding the panel on

Im hoping its not like that

Anybody taken the panel off before, and if so how

cheers

Same on my S3C. There are a total of 6 bolts (M6). 1 bolt each side of heater control. 2 bolts (vertical above eachother) at panel far end, outside glove box. 2 bolts (vertical above eachother) at panel far end, next to intrument cluster.

Access was helped greatly by lowering steering column and removing air ducting behind dash in the process.

Colin, are you going to do a write up on this - as its something I (& maybe others) will probably want to attempt in the future?

If it is of any help; I assume you struggle primarily with the two bolts next to the heater control (?). On my car, the one between the heater control and glove box was located 23 cm from the center of the heater control. The one between the heater control and instrument cluster was located 17 cm from the center of the heater control.
You may also gain better access to the bolts if you carefully (!) force the lower part of the dashboard, outwards. I used some big hooks (!) and luggage straps to keep it fixed in this outward position whilst fiddling behind the dash...

Why, what are you going to do now? I did mine in about an hour, oh and about two pints of blood from all the screw and ty-wrap ends.

Dropping the steering column speeded things up greatly.

Don't know if you have found someone to do this for you, but I got mine done a couple of years ago, along with the little one on the centre console for just over £200. email me if you need details, the guy did a great job.

Colin

Had a look at it yesterday when you were at Austec and it looked pretty good to me, is it that you're such a perfectionist, or do you plan to do something other than just re-veneer the dash?.
