Am thinking about upgrading to the eurocup twin intake kit from the porscheshop.co.uk and was wondering if anyone had any views on this...basically whether it's worth the investment. I have a 997.1 c2 and in need of a bit more noise...is this the best way to go or would something as simple as the gundo hack be a better option...or just go straight for the exhaust upgrade?

Thanks

It does look nice - but who looks in a 911 engine bay.
Sound wise gun do hack would be better.
PSE retrofit is the best but far from cheap.

Whilst the ad doesn't make any reference there is a small power hike from the euro cup too...about 23bhp...so some extra benefit. Would just like to hear the noise before purchasing!

Very doubtful if were talk peak power!
It's also not a sealed intake so warm engine air will get in so not a true cold air induction kit, you might even loose power.

Ah my plan maybe flawed then? So would a cold air induction kit be a better route?

You already have a cold air induction kit with your stock system!
Just stick a BMC filter in the air box, cap the resonator and get some silicone tube, will sound much better, crisper throttle response and maybe 3-5BHP more.

Porsche did not leave much on the table with these cars and there own 12k power kit only gives 25BHP.

Of course I do! Your suggestion sounds like a much more cost effective route, thanks. Is this doable myself...to put this into context my mechanical skills extend to filing oil and washer bottles, nothing more

Just found this link to a resonator hack which seems to do the trick at an incredible price I.e. FREE!

Until the bottle cap gets sucked into your engine - then it won't be free at all! rolleyes

Gibbo205 is right about this on several levels.

1) The twin aftermarket intake will draw-in hot air from the engine bay. The engine management programming in the 997.1 is very sensitive to intake air temperatures and will automatically de-tune the engine (by backing-off the ignition timing and enrichening the air/fuel mixture) as the intake temps rise.

2) The standard airbox is very good and is a proper cold air system - it draws all its air from outside the car.

3) The standard airbox, whilst good, can be improved upon.
a) The air filter size used is borderline too small for the engine, so is restrictive. If you change the filter for one that flows more air per given area - the BMC-F1 is the ideal solution as it's very well made and flows very well - you will feel an improvement. Even though the gain isn't very big in absolute terms, the difference in the way the car feels - mid range response and throttle sharpness - is way ahead of the numbers. It's a very effective (and cheap) mod.
b) The sound can be improved by ditching the hose that connects the airbox to the throttle body (and also connects to the silencer that sits in the top of the airbox). You need to replace the hose with one that has no connector to the airbox silencer. This gives the intake a nice howl and is again, very effective and cheap.

The above mods are a 20 minute job to return to standard when you sell the car too.

The kit you need can be found here:

Bottom item - order with BMC filter.

Ian, many thanks for your comprehensive reply. I was somewhat wary of plugging an oil bottle top in my pride and joys engine...so I had asked a friend to try it in his 996!!!
The sensible route is clearly what you have linked to, and an order has duly been placed. I shall update this thread with my findings...fingers crossed!

What Ian has linked to is spot on, along with BMC filter, you'll love the noise and throttle response, be sure to report back.

Another option is buy a spare stock air box of eBay and then actually dremel out the resonator as it blocks about 20% of the filters flow off and in absolute terms is worth another 1-2BHP so is probably not worth the hassle or expense.

You should get the car on a dyno at some point. smile

Mine came with the K&N kit on it and has a lovely howl, will be on the rolling road next week to see what power it is making and will do a back to back test with a stock box so it will be interesting to see what if any difference there is.

Could you post an mp3 file so we can hear the difference? Thanks

Well modification is complete

From a technical perspective it was trouble free and took less than 30 mins.

But I have to say the aural sensation is disappointing. I can only find a difference between 5000 - 5500 revs at which point I can hear a magnificent howl....but before that nothing, and after that nothing. Hugely disappointed

The acceleration is mildy more responsive. But am I noticing a big difference,....no...good value...no

Has it brought me the aural experience I was seeking ...no

The c2s delivers a better noise...why?

warobbo, as previously suggested by others - it sounds like what you really need is a Gundo hack - you'll never look back!
