Lotus GS?? What's The Story?
Discussion
I think that this one may have been on sale a while back, but it looked like a big restoration job. I prefer the looks of the Europa Twin Cam and Special to this, which is sort of just another wedgy sports car, and not the most pleasing of those. I am not so keen on the earlier high sided Europas, although Chapman apparently thought the car was ruined once it had windows you could open.
A GS would look like this if not knackered:-

I posted a link early September in Breadvan's topic. Item has ended so I don't know what became of it.

Have you seen this Lotus GS Europa? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... , needs a bit more than a polish.
ooo thats a great picture, I love those Europa's...
indeed you have to be fast to get one for a reasonable price, most will go up in price and some are already, seen some not a lot used and not worked so 'original' for prices high in the in the 30K
for me I don't need/want a total original Europa, a nice spydercars europa is also welcome or one with a good chassis type S3/74? and say with a zetec conversion and 200+ (260 would be nice) engine.

I like this sort rear with the exhaust that way>>

don't know yet, but I was starting to collect info and different pictures and websites of Europa's and found this website interesting, they make a stronger chassis which looks great too and do some nice zetec conversions.
in the days those cars were around the best in the twisties and tracks, they are very lightweight and very low and in those days with better suspension and better chassis and stronger engine etc, you could have a very nice fast car which will be fuel friendly and also I guess easy to maintain...
also they have a timeless shape and are good classics.
drive to the track, chase some Porsche and afterwards drive home with it.
its a car with a lot potential and not many on the road.

Yes. You can still buy a proper Lotus chassis, so why buy a Spyder chassis?
don't know, have to say I have no experience with either chassis, but it sounds better?if you don't need everything 100% original then why not update some things when you need new parts.
That's also why I would like to see a separate Lotus "classic" thread in the gassing station, so we can discus and share info/pictures etc of all classic Lotus and all together at one place, would be nice me thinks

Why "update" it? Is there something wrong with the original?
One of my Classic Car pet peeves... The "I've never driven it but these different parts have GOT to be better than the originals - they're newer!" crew.
BTW, I have heard of some Spyder chassis that have cracked in normal use, knew someone involved in the court case about it.

the original when I read the book/storys must be fine when you leave it all original I guess, in those days it was one of the best handling cars so that sounded very good
but I guess (again no experience) if you do, say a zetec conversion and ad a lot more power say 190<>260hp
also use better suspension and wider wheels etc, then the chassis made for those days and specs in the 60/70 could come a bit short in present time?
don't say such spydercars chassis or Banks would be the answer though, I was just wondering and if they/it does what they speak of it sounded better for the job/present days.
