WEC weekend - Silverstone

Hi,

Soon to book my first WEC experience, at Silverstone but as yet there's no weekend timetable.

So, what will this weekend entail? What normally happens on the Friday - is it worth going? Saturdaay I inagine is qulifying with race on Sunday? What else?

What usually supports the WEC and what is the off-track entertainment like? Do most of the local campsites open up for this and do they put entertinment on?

I know that FIA European F3 is one of the support events, but not sure on the others...

We always go just on the sunday. Warm up, 1 support race if i recall correctly. The free pit walk is also before the race but last year it was chaos so i hope its a bit more organized this year. Roll on April

This year will be different to last year as it's a double header weekend with ELMS running their 6 hour race on Saturday. I'm guessing Friday will be qualifying for both ELMS and WEC but beyond that it's anyones guess at the moment.

Must admit, I was looking forward to the Pit walk but I may give it a miss, depending on how chaotic/organised it looks. Open paddock appeals though.

That sounds good - more bang for your buck!!

I take it the WEC draws in big crowds - assuming most/all of the grandstands will be open?

Will all the campsites be open for this - only Whittlebury and Litchlake don't mention this event on their websites. Silverstone camping is linked from the WEC page so I assume they'll be open.

Not that you'd notice but then Silverstone is a big place. It certainly doesn't feel like a big crowd and generally beyond the start/finsh there are very few grandstands open.

that would be excellent value but is it certain to be two separate races? id've thought it would make more sense that they ran together in the same race as the ALMS does with the WEC at the Sebring 12 hours rather than two separate races

That's how I understood it to be. A quick check of the dates seems to support this as WEC is on the 14th but the ELMS calendar states the Silverstone round will be 12-13 April.

sounds great, hopefully both get good entries!! will one run from the old pits (presumably ELMS) and the other from the new pits?

That has surprised me, some what. I thought there'd have been a good enough turnout to warrany a lot of the stands open. WEC hospitality is located in the Wing so does that mean the Wing will be used for the races? If so I can't believe they won't have the likes of Luffield/Woodcote or Copse open.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Might also explain why some campsites don't have this event listed - they might not be open for it.
