Panasonic Viera gone pop
Discussion
Just got quite a fright from my TV - sat enjoying some Xbox time and something went off like a gunshot in the back of the TV. Now when trying to power it on you get 7 red blinks of the LED and nothing else happens.
It's a TX-P42GT30 and was an insurance replacement 25 months ago. Given how little use it's had I'm a bit miffed, but it seems I'm far from being the only one it's happened to.
I'm guessing I'll get absolutely nowhere by calling the insurers who replaced it, or Panasonic but does anyone have any experience of getting them fixed? Just wondering whether replacement boards are megabucks as I don't see any point in spending 300 quid to breathe life into a 2 year old TV when there's so many options in the <£1k range now.
I'm quite prepared for the fact it's now scrap and a trip to John Lewis beckons, but I'd rather avoid it as I'm moving across the pond soon and it'll be left in the UK.
Thoughts on whether to fix or replace?

I fixed my Samsung 50" plasma 18months ago and it hasn't missed a beat, TV's are worth fixing if you are happy to do it yourself

A quick search suggests 7 flashes means your power board has a problem ( it was the power board on my tv ). You could buy a used board from eBay (£40) or take yours out and repair it yourself depending on your knowledge of electronics.
There are a lot of posts on AV forums about this and it seems a common fault, it is perhaps worth checking with Panasonic for a free repair.
Thanks Ben.
I suspect the board's toast given how spectacular it's demise was! Unfortunately I don't use ebay, which I guess means I'm as knackered as the TV. I'll see if I can get someone who does to pick a board up or something so I can fix it and pass it on - after some time to stew on it I think I'll upgrade it as if it goes pop again while I'm watching the superbowl I'll probably go on a rampage
Panasonic and their official repairer have been spectacularly unhelpful and want £120 before they'll even look at it with no guarantee they'll cover the repair, which I assume will be extortionate if they don't. So they can go and eat a bag of dicks, to put not too fine a point on it. I think I'll buy a Samsung next
