Evening Drivers !!

Well I have to make my decision for tyres now and I'm thinking of going two different tyres obviously the same on each axle.

Rears

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

Fronts

Toyo Proxes T1-S

If anyone has any feed back on this I would be gratefull if you think this is good or bad.

I am very indecisive about what tyres to fit so all feedback would be greatfull recieved.

As I dont just want to go the way with the crowd, I dont do track days but drive a 1,000 miles a month and I do drive it quite hard.....

Thanks

Clive

Try the new Toyo Proxes T1-R - supposed to be a great improvement over the T1-S according a few Elise owners I know. I have T1S on the Elise and Tuscan at the moment, will be going T1-R in the future.

I have this setup on my car at the moment and when I had them first put on the car behaved very strangely. I have since altered the settings on the nitrons and its pretty good now. GSD's are a good alround tyre!

To be honest, I read an article in an old EVO magazine it was a 2002 issue and the Goodyear Eagles came in as the top tyre. In nearly all tests including wear.

The toyos didnt come 1st in any tests so I think my mind is made up I will be ordering a pair of G E's tonight. :O)

Running Eagles on the back and S03s on the front. Like the Eagles, not convinced by the S03s. Had Proxes on the Cerb before, and really liked them. Mixed & matched to great effect on the Elise. But just as you can get a great combination if you get it right, if you get it wrong it's REALLY bad.

Another thing... I think I'll be going up from 35 profile to 40 profile tyres next time I switch, as that gave a MUCH better ride on the Cerb. Might be worth considering?

I wouldn't run different makes front and back - well maybe that's just me. The Toyos should wear out more quickly than the Goodyears but they should also be cheaper. I've done 7000 miles and 3 track days on my current Toyos and I reckon they'll get to 12000 miles before needing replacement. As a comparison the SO2s I had before lasted 18000 miles and 3 track days. All 4 tyres wore at the same rate.

The T1-S have softer sidewalls than the SO2s so result in a slighty smoother ride but the turn in was also slightly softer as a result. I found both offer good grip in the dry and wet, maybe the Toyos better in the wet.

I'm on 235/40/18 front and 245/40/18 rear.

Cheers,

Andy.

I'm going to be getting Toyo Proxes T1-R on the rear in a month or so.

Am going to try the 255/40/R18 when they come out.

Change from 35 -> 40 profile Proxes = a 3% under-reading on your speedo (well, 2.9-something-or-other). That's based on the rolling circumferences Toyo give on their website. That's assuming that 18" wheels + 35 profile tyres are spot on to start with... given the Tuscan was originally designed for the 16s, I don't know how much "out" they are as standard.

Was never too bothered with the speedo being out by 1mph every 30 on the Cerb; the ride was fantastic, however.

If you're on 255s shouldn't you be on 35 profile ?

Literally back from the garage from having Goodyear F1's fitted to the rear (in place of SO3's). (Still running SO2's at the front.)

In that short distance I noticed that the car was tramlining a lot less than before (there are actually tramlines in the road!). The only other info at this stage is the F1 tread pattern LOOKS v.cool!

Will drop you another line tomorrow after the drive home and back (autoroute/B roads).

Note: bought the tyres on the internet www.pnueonline.ch , Swiss site of mytyres.co.uk. Much cheaper (CHF320) than buying in a garage here. Downside is that there's only a few garages that will then fit them...maybe the same story in the U.K. ... Anyway, the halfwits blew up (almost literally) to 38psi, scuffed one of the alloys with the machine, and put plastic caps back on.... just watch out.

I'm not saying they are a bad tyre..

well, I stuck a set of rear T1-S on mine a few months ago.

Still running with the bridgy fronts.

I like em. Very very grippy. don't squeal as much as the bridgys either when they start to go.

In wet they give good feel, but I'll be honest... I don't push it in the wet, and with them being on the rear it's hard to say more than that.

I've been in a tuscan that had goodyears on the front and it was like the steering wheel was possessed by evil spirits. It could have been the suspension setup of course..but the sidewalls did look totally different to the bridgys and the toyos.

I'd have though your best bet is talk to those who really know: tvr and folk like maybe tvr centre.. the tvr centre were the ones that first pushed for 18s in the first place as far as I understand it.

er....might have to begrudgingly subscribe to Powerlords evil spirit theory...felt the F1's wandering a bit on the autoroute last night. Having said that, the balancing job of the monkeys at the garage is abso.f.lutely crap. Whole car nearly shook to bits >90mph... Will have to have them rebalanced by someone who knows what they're doing and see if the wandering and shaking disappear...
