What car - Fast, luxurious, safe and mean looking for OH? 5k
Discussion
Sorry to do this to you but we need help in finding a car for her.
Budget is 5k
Sinse we have been together she/we has had, in order and what she thought of them:
1998 1.4 Almera saloon (her 1st car)
2010 1.8 TDCI Mondeo
2001 Audi A3 1.6 (she liked this as it was an Audi and a good stereo)
1998 Ford Puma 1.7 (She liked because is was 'nippy' but budget)
1995 Mitsubishi FTO Mivec (Quick and made a nice noise, but same as above)
2002 Saab 95 Aero - Stg 1 (She LOVED this but no handling)
Currently 1998 BMW 523i (She HATES it after coming from the Saab, genarally not keen on BMWs)
Really what she wants is a 4.2 S5 but our budget will not stretch
Ideally she is looking for something that is like the Saab in terms of comfort, premium feel, toys and power BUT Hatchback or coupe (Must seat 4) and handles well.
My train of thought has been:
-CLK 320/500 (she is not mad on mercs and rust issues?)
-8L S3, but she has already had an 8l and does not neccaserily want another,
wants a 8p
Any ideas?

CLK would be my choice, in fact im considering one for my next car in 9 - 12 months time. I'd go with the 320, post facelift cars don't seem to rust, and engine / trans reliability on Mercedes is about as good as it gets.
5K should get a 2003 / 2004 CLK 320 with 80,000 on the clock, and 2 - 300,000 left in it.

XK8.
Hmmm I did think of this BUT it is a big motor and the rear seats are quite small.IMO they do look fantastic but perhaps not 'Sporty' enough for her
To her unless they are the newer XK there a bit 'old man'
EDIT: Apperntly this is a mans car, FYI she is a 26yo Physio

Then I'm confused - this is a "big" motor but you were thinking of a CLK500?IMO they do look fantastic but perhaps not 'Sporty' enough for her

Also you want "good handling" and then list an S3 and a CLK - the Jag will steer better than both, and be quicker than a CLK320.
I understand the "old man" part - they're sensitive to colour and wheel choice.

What I mean by 'big motor' is that she feels intimidated by its bonnet, overhangs and width. The CLK in proportion is handier, easier to place. Also you want "good handling" and then list an S3 and a CLK - the Jag will steer better than both, and be quicker than a CLK320.

and what I mean by @good handling is not right responsiveness, steering feel etc read, 'safe handling' not oversteer shannagans etc hence the quattro.
The roads we drive are in Ireland, where the surfaces are poor, wet and windy.
