Wheel buckled by pot hole. What are my rights? if any?

As the title suggests, i was driving home and then BANG, front drivers side wheel hits a massive pot hole in the middle of the road.
I started to notice the steering wheel judder a little when driving in a straight line so took the Car into Jaguar and had them have a look.
They confirmed the front drivers side wheel is buckled quite badly.
This has obviously really pissed me off, We pay enough every year on council tax so things like this should not happen. I really want to take this up with my local council. Anyone done this before? how successful were they? how should i go about it? take a picture of said pot hole? get a headed letter from Jaguar confirming the damage?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
