Hi guys,

I have just put down a deposit for a Porsche Cayman S 2010 over the phone as the dealership is on the other side of the country. I have therefore arranged to have the car delivered to me. Now I haven't actually seen the car in the flesh and the first time I see it will be when it is delivered to my house.

Now I am starting to get a bit concerned after talking to a few people saying you will have bought the car before its delivered and what if there are any problems with the car your stuck etc.

So am I right in having it delivered as its a 6 hour round trip plus all the costs of fuel? What do I need to look for when accepting the delivery? What can I do if I have any problems with the car when it is delivered?

Unfortunately all these uncertainties are souring my experience of buying a Porsche. Thank you in advance much appreciate,

mankey

Veeeeeery stupid question but if you have these concerns, why did you not go to see it - if it's only 3hrs away?

I would have made my own way there and double checked everything then enjoyed the experience travelling home!

If it's OPC there shouldn't be any problems, but if there are, get on the phone. You could always give the dealer rep a call to let them know your concerns in advance of the delivery. Any decent sales rep should be able to reassure you that things will be OK.

Is it the white one at Cardiff?

I don't think I'd be brave enough to ever risk buying a second han car without seeing it in the flesh first. With the thrill of a three hour drive home in a new Porsche to look forward to I'd definitely go prsonally to pick it up smile

I've done it before with a VXR220 that was over in Cardiff, and since I was in Essex I couldn't be bothered to drive over to look at it then come all the way back then go all the way back over to pick it up, so I took the punt. It was via a main dealer and it paid off superbly, the car was as good as I hoped.

These days I'm a little older and a little wiser, and yet I'd still do the same again. Probably. I didn't even drive the 911 before I bought it, probably should've done that too! laugh

Yes, common sense dictates you MUST view a car before purchasing. Life is more exciting when you don't though, so good luck and let us know how it goes smile

I've bought a few nice cars unseen, never had one delivered though, always collected them from dealers.

I bought the Cayman R without viewing.

She is perfect in every way.

It will have 2 year OPC warranty too.

Wonder if he's bought it from HWM.

They'll probably send him a Boxster, as that's all they had in stock.
It'll do.

I once bought a used Porsche, unseen, as I was overseas.

It was delivered straight into specialist storage and the first time I saw it was a year later.

Recently bought my 997.2 turbo from the other side of the country 250+ miles each way. Made one trip to view and close the deal then another to collect 2 weeks later following final prep.... Cost me more of course but what a great weekend away (in Cardiff) and drive back to really get used to the car. Initially wouldn't have dreamt of buying unsighted, but in future I may well do so, certainly from the same team at Cardiff OPC. If from OPC I think you'll be safe! Either way, just enjoy! biggrin

I'm not sure what would happen if you decided to back right out of the deal once you saw the car but, on paper, they should be OK with this if it came to it. But I'd say that, given the age and that is an OPC car, I think you are unlikely to be disappointed. What you might find is the odd small thing not to your liking and, when that has happened to me, they have always sorted it without question.

Like others have said, I'd go to the OPC if only for the buzz of bringing it home etc but, I wouldn't be that worried about doing it the way you've chosen if no other choice.

I bought 3 months ago for my wife a 6 months old top range Lexus 450 Hybrid from a Lexus dealer without seeing it. I even paid the full amount without seeing the car. However Before I bought the car I had an exchange of email with the dealer specifying what I was looking for. If you buy from a dealer you will be 100 per cent safe but I would still ask him/her to confirm in writing that the car is as it was described to you.

It'll probably be fine.

What's the worst that could happen...

I bought my first GT3, privately, without seeing it!!!

I did check up on it and it then went to the local OPC for a warranty and I spoke to them.

It was immaculate. I did pick it up in person of course for the 220 mile drive home. It was a FANTASTIC car smile

I would never buy another OPC car without looking at it first. In my experience standards are not what they were and if you don't ask the right questions they won't tell you. My last two cars bought from OPCs were not good. My advice go and look at it and ask the right questions if possible get the answer in writing. Nothing worse than finding out you have parted with your hard earned only to find it is not what you expected.

Another option might be to get a Porsche specialist who does inspections to go and appraise the car for you prior to purchase/delivery; it might cost a bit, but could save you a lot of heart ache. Good Luck.

I am stunned at the number of cars I deliver sight unseen and just hope they are 'as described' when I off load them!!

Since the op is not prepared to collect it himself thereby providing the opportunity to examine the vehicle, the very least should be to agree, in writting, a get out clause if the car is not as described when its delivered.

I suspect you will still have to sign some sort of acceptance, or finance document in person. Take your time looking around the car when it is delivered, if you have a warranty, then you have peace of mind..

Good luck!
