I went online recently to run a quote for a policy on my 182 cup..

Anyway done this on a comparison website and after its 20-30 seconds it listed all the policies..

£580 - £3000

Then at the bottom £44.95..

After looking for a second i clicked on the £44.95 that took me through to the companies website... checked over all the details that were correct ... they were so purchased the policy.. felt pretty chuffed with myself but thought i think this will come back and bite me..

que a few days later i get a call from said insurance company who asked me had i noticed i have a very cheap policy.. i confirmed that i did take out a recent reasonably priced policy... they advised me there had been a mistake on the system which had given me a "free" insurance policy, the £44 was for the mandatory break down cover.. they advised the policy should have a premium of 1500 :-O...

Now at this point i was getting ready for an argument as i thought they were going to a, charge me the difference or b, cancel the policy.. But i was wrong.. the guy went on to say that they are a brokers and that company was not the cheapest for them and wanted to swop me onto another company from within their brokerage.. makes its cheaper for them my 600 quid but the best bit they wont charge me anything extra either ..

So now i have a fully comp policy on my 182 at age 26 for £44.95 per year .. Win i think :-)

Anyone had anything similar?

That is an average of over £1,600 a policy. Just shows how expensive insurance is these days!

This^^

You may already pay for your premiums in one lump but if not, save now and you will have cheaper insurance in future as a result.

I was once covered by Swinton and had a monthly direct debit set up for payments.

I recieved a letter from them through the post saying about a change of bank and so my direct debit would need to change but all would be sorted their end.

I gave it no more thought and some months later the policy renewed automatically without problem.

After a while I did a reconcilliation of my bills/back account and realised that I could not find the insurance payment. So I gave them a call. Yes, they had forgot to set-up the direct debit again.

They wrote off all the payments upto today and said they would re-start the dd.

They never did until I rang to ask them again. I moved to another insurance company at the next opportunity.

I assume that at next renewal when they invite at the correct figure, you'll be posting on here that rip off insurers want to increase your premium by 3500% and that these robbing swines shouldn't be allowed to trade.

that correct renewal will be normal.. also if i change car they will charge me the full premium... and no i wont complain i was gonna pay the 580.. after paying 2500 a year a few years ago i consider 580 reasonable..

£44 to £580 is a 1200% increase. You will have to post next year how these insurers are all bloodsucking leeches and rip off merchants. That's the law.
