Why do Mercedes UK refuse to give us the option of 4matic ?

The new E63 looks good and has specifically been developed for 4 matic, but sounds like we wont see it

It's because it physically doesn't fit.

The RHD vehicles steering column fouls the transmission (or something) on the 4Matic. They're not going to re-engineer it for the relatively small and pointless RHD market, UK, Au, Asia.
I don't think the UK buyers would go for it but then again the Quattro is popular but is that because it's just a certain model and spec or just a different type of buyer?

"Mercedes saloon 4WD? Oh how frightfully vulgar dear boy."

"Audi Quattro? Wikid, I'm well successful me!"

I have read that the next version of 4matic will be RHD compatible as Mercedes kick themselves over not having a small crossover in RHD markets.

True of the old 4 matic, but as the new 2014 E63 has been designed from the ground up with this you would have thought theyt wouls take this into consideration!

I guess we have to wait and see

Really want the new E63 S I.e the one shown at Detroit a few weeks back, as I understand from the literature and the car & driver preview it has been developed specifically as a 4matic to compete with the RS6, which makes me wonder if MB have had to specially make it 2wd for the UK ?
