Anyone who hasn't read about the situation with Mark Hales must clearly have had their head stuck in the snow for the last few days.

Regardless of what you feel, we all like reading about people playing with cars and it sounds like that's all he was really doing in this case.
I think it's a really sad situation that it's got as far as it has, I guess that a lot of people on this website who can afford to give away £10 for a good cause.

The following is a link to an appeal set up to help him raise some funds:
http://www.trackdriver.com/mark_hales_appeal.php

My brother is a track instructor and knows Mark, apparently he is a first-class driver.
This decision is already having a knock-on effect with the motoring/journalist world, only 3 weeks before Christmas my brother was involved in an accident whilst he was instructing in a borrowed car, thankfully the owner looked at it all in the right way and my brother didn't end up footing the bill, but looking at all of this it could so easily have gone the wrong way.

It is worth reading the full summing up of the Judge.
Mr Hales came out of it in a very poor light and was thought an uncredible witness .
He did not help his case by stating in writing
“I admit the damage was caused to the engine by my failure to select the gear correctly”.
He's only got himself to blame and if I were Piper I think I'd probably be just a tad pissed off that someone had just blown the engine in my 7-figure value car too.

I can sympathise with both parties but I think Piper seeking compo is justified in the circumstances presented.

Is this really needed in this thread?

I think its been established that Mark Hales messed up. From what I've read on here he's a brilliant person who deserves help from the community even if his descisions following the break were poor.

I suspect that if PH had more people like Mark Hales and fewer people like you, itd be a better place. You tool.

If I use customer equipment for my own commercial purposes, mess up and break it then I'm liable to fix it. I don't see how I or anyone else in that situation should be bailed out. Contracts and insurances exist for this very purpose.
