Advice needed!..... I am looking to buy a car at home to use in the summer months when visiting. I live/work abroad most of the year so escape both the weather and the taxman. This does not therefore need to be a practical choice, but somethimg to enjoy touring the country in for a few weeks in the year at most. Don't want lots of maintenance issues as I will not be around much to resolve them. Do want a good laugh and a proper motoring experience. Budget of approx 10k. Was thinking along the lines of a Westfield or similar, but would ve to hear suggestions from enthusiasts as all my other uk cars have been cheap, practical ones... Ie. Rovers etc...

Will these need more or less expensive servicing than a westie? Though prob better at soaking up a long day of driving...

Touring for me implies a modicum of practicality. Also, a car to be left parked up for a few months a year requires solid build and security. With your criteria I would have a Boxster S if you only require a 2 seater, for added practicality and touring ability an E46 M3 Convertible..

..or a TVR Chimaera if you're willing to put a bit more time and effort into a cart to certainly get a lot out!!

Car will be garaged during the year, so security not too much an issue. I was happily set on a caterfield until I thought about TVR... Childhood dreams.....

But then you think about maintenance and move onto a more modern convertible, and then you go Japanese, and then suddenly it all starts getting a bit too sensible which defeats the purpose, and therefore may as well stick to fleet hire car....

Then it's full circle and back to the beginning.....
