rv8 crossover injection system and aircon
Discussion
In the process of building an engine using the above. Unfortunately the driverside inlet ducting will not come over the top of the aircon compressor. I am advised to dump the aircon but would prefer not to. Has anyone fitted a xover system with aircon, if so how have you dealt with the air intake on the drivers side? Any ideas??
Thanks
I ended up taking my AC out of the Marcos due to the X over, saved around 25KG though, tbh i wasnt really to bothered with the AC and have ended up boxing it all up just in case for the future.....
It theres room maybe you could mod the airbox? i think at the time JE mentioned reversing the boxes? no chance on the LM though, As i said though the AC wasnt a issue for me, Hood down and thats as good as it gets :-)

Thanks for the responses guys. After much soul searching and uncertainty I decided to stick with n/a and not progress the s/c or turbo route - each to their own I guess. An important factor for me is drivability as well as increased bhp as I equally enjoy touring as the track day/spanking it bit. In the end I have opted for a new John Eales 5.1 full motor with xover injection and the ACT manifolds.
John doesnt think that I can run aircon with this induction and whilst its a minor issue, roof off and all that, I do find the aircon usefull when its hot and wet and would prefer to keep it if I can. Unless anyone can point me in another direction I will fit it without aircon and try working up an induction solution for aircon when I get the car back from John.

EPIC!
Good choice on the JE 5.1 engine. Last time I spoke to Mark Adams he said he was working on a JE 5.1 engine running GEMS for one of his overseas clients and it was looking to produce some excellent figures.
What kind of BHP and torque are you expecting from your setup and what ECU are you using?

Tell us more about this X over system ! why is ir more efficient than trumpets ? What are the gains apart from throttle repsonse . Who desingned and built the inlet manifold .
I can answer the first bit (to a degree)its basically called a crossover system because of the way the heads work and the direction of the ports - if you fitted the throttle bodies on a short manifold the opposing sides would likely hit each other, so this inlet manifold extends the ports past each other (eg they crossover).
its WAY more efficient than oem style trumpets.
no convoluted intake, so you get an almost direct run into each cylinder
one throttle per cylinder means more air.
more air = more fuel = more bang.
add in an aftermarket ecu to control fuelling and timing and its much much more efficient.
thats simplified, but it does explain it

Thanks for the response -= i hope mine ends up looking as good as yours mate!! I have decided to remove the aircon now and see how I go without it. If I dont miss it i will leave it off and keep the bits for anypoint I need to restore to original.

could perhaps the AC mounting be modified.
Perhaps a sectionional slice removed and have the alloy rewelded.
Reverend and Dod - Thanks for the suggestions they are registered in case I decide on a reinstall next winter.Perhaps a sectionional slice removed and have the alloy rewelded.

As mentioned earlier in the thread driveability for tours with SWMBO is as important as outright performance so I have gone for a bit of a compromise on the spec. That said John expects it to give in the area of 380 bhp and 375 lb torque with tourque well spread across the range. ECU is the DTA S80Good choice on the JE 5.1 engine. One last question,, how is the 5.1 engine made up to get the cc.
Daz the design and build of the cross over is all John Eales I believe but he obviously outsources elements. The 5.1cc comes from 94.55mm bore and 91.5mm stroke. One last question,, how is the 5.1 engine made up to get the cc.

and oh yeah - the noise

Oh yes the noise - I have gone for the ACT performance manifolds with and without CAT downpipes so I can play and meet MOT standards as and when. Hopefully this combination will be aural bliss!!

John tells me we are two weeks away from picking up the engine then I need to install and get it all mapped. Will keep you all posted.

Ian,
What AC compressor do you have?
Surely you can squeeze one of these compact Toyota compressors:

Lovely manifold BTW.
