Was slowing down whilst coming up to a set of lights, the lights turned green, and so I continued to crawl ahead at 10mph...not accelerating though as I could see a man and wife who, despite the lights being green for cars, looked as if they were going to cross. I continued coasting forwards, cautiously, when he did indeed attempt to cross with his wife. It was a wide road, a lot of distance for him to cover, and my car was moving forwards.

There were 15+ people on either side waiting to cross, and they all watched him step out into the road, and start crossing. By the time he got to the middle I had come to a complete stop to avoid hitting him. I honked and didn't stop until he had passed my car which irritated me, as I prefer to be patient, rage only generates more rage. Either way, thats what I did, and he came round to my window (Big tall bloke) screaming at the top of his lungs like a psycho, whilst 30+ people at the sides of the road watched the incident.

What would everyone here have done, just been patient, or honked. Petty question I know, but his response was violent, part of me thinks that if I let everything slide there wont be any trouble, but at the same time theres always a sense of feeling that you might be teaching someone something if you do choose to give them a blast (especially when there are plenty of onlookers) and they are clearly doing something stupid/dangerous.

Id have done what you did Bob....because aside from the fact he obviously felt he was better than anyeone else (and could therefore cros whatever the lights said), he was setting a dangerous example to impressionable youngsters!! With lots of onlookers...assuming it was crystal clear he was being a tw@t, Id have shouted back at him too.....

weird isnt it. I had a slightly similar incident on sunday.

Was coming out of bournemouth on a dual carriageway, a sign came up to say right hand lane closing in 800metres. I was in the right hand lane with a rover in front of me. The rover stopped, the cars in front of the rover carried on, the left hand lane was full of queued up cars.

I waited 30 seconds or so & the rover still didnt move, by now the cars in our lane (previously in front of the rover) were out of sight in front. The rover wasnt moving or indicating left to joing the l/h lane. I beeped the horn as by now a minute had passed. No resposnse from woman driving rover.

Waited another 30 seconds & beeped again, by now the cars behind me were beeping too, still no response, I considered that maybe they had broken doen, got out of the car and went to the rover & asked if they had broken down or could move over so everyone else could get past.

The guy in the passenger seat leapt out of the car & started going nuts, telling me to mind my own f**ing business, to wait my f**ing turn, we all had to wait etc etc, made no sense at all. I just got back in the car. Eventually joined left hand lane and passed the rover, the driver & passenger were both waving and smiling, complete f*ing berks!

Time for Jaywalking fines, cameras to catch them, and of course chips in bonces to ensure they can't get away.......

I'd have done the same, mind you in Germany they're better and don't jaywalk, so you'd just hit the loud pedal!!!

I guess this is how they would join the motorway from the slip road or hard shoulder (I was unfortunate enough to be passenger to a driver who followed this philosophy). Don't worry, Darwin's theory will soon be proved correct and they will be removed from the gene pool.

Sadly, though, we all know in our heart of hearts that this won't happen, and that they will continue to multiply and enjoy all the protection and freedom-to-do-whatever-they-like that the present nanny state and its risible excuse for a judicial system is able to lavish on them.

This worries me greatly.

Hiya Bob..

I can understand you honking your horn...and it would have been my instinct to do so too....

However, experience has taught me that it's not worth the potential outcome and £££ damage to car if the guy is a nutter.

thankfully it's learning by others experiences and not my own

If you suspected he was going to cross a quick beep of your horn as early as possible would be the best solution. That would have made him pause and look for a moment (even if he was just rubbernecking) long enough for you to cruise by. If he was determined to be obstreperous and walked out anyway at least you'd done your best to prevent the incident happening.

When he came round and started yelling at me, I did shout back, at the very top of my lungs (loud enough for everyone within a block or so to hear) but the whole incident left me debating the old jedi philosophy, "Once you start down the dark path (anger) forever will it consume your destiny"

I just feel so much cooler, letting things slide, continuing on my merry way etc (cant change the world) but at the same time I cant help but wonder at the loons on our roads, both on foot and in car/on scooter etc.

Yes I think that is wise. These days even a perfectly proper audible warning may provoke something quite unpleasant, such as a kicked door panel, if not worse.

I'm afraid we're becoming a nation of bums and miscellaneous nut cases. The best course of action seems to be to keep your distance and try to steer clear of trouble, though it seems to be getting more difficult to do even that.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Solution to idiot in road:

1.Buy a TVR

2.rev it to about 6k

Tends to make them shit themselves so they are too busy to shout at you.

Hope that helped.

Have to agree - a quick slip of the clutch usually does the job...
