Hello.

I tried these for the first time last night and fook me I ache! Which has lead me to think-can I buy a decent one and sack off the gym?

I've been pushing myself at the gym this year doing a mix of cardiovascular days and weights days, and will be cycling to work (11 miles) when the weather perks up a tad. My aim is to have a nicer shape for my wedding in August. I'm a late 20's broad shouldered male, 14.5 stone and 6ft1 (no goatee) a few years ago I got really into the gym and lifting weights, but since then my gym buddy has moved and I've got lazy!

The reasons behind wanting to leave the gym is I can never get on what I want to, it's full of 'screamers' and regardless of he time of day it's like a teenage social club. Other gyms are too far away unfortunately.

On a day to day basis I cycle for 20-30 minutes each morning with my dogs, then sometimes again when I get home, or go to the gym. I'm reckoning sandbag workout for 30-45 minutes 2-3 times a week on top of this could be all I need? I'm not aiming to look like he-man, just lose a stone or so...

Thanks!

Yes! Depends whether you'll be motivated at home or not, though.

I have been in the past. My plan is to get into a routine at the gym, then buy one and never return! I dislike going to three gym immensely, now I've found something I enjoy, no doubt the other gym users will start using them, haha!

As logged on the 'What Training?' thread I've been using sandbags for two or three years now - firstly a 20Kg Jordan Powerbag and lately a 17Kg Bulgarian Bag, a lot more expensive but way harder and way more versatile, the different grips and straps offer a lot of exercise approaches and really work the grip - and am getting back to the point where it's becoming a staple of my training, with bodyweight circuits etc. on top.

I reckon it's helping keep my strength up reasonably well given how little weight lifting I do these days and is definitely great for fitness/endurance and weight loss.

Have a look at some of the clips/sites that promote them on YouTube for ideas of how hard and effective they can be (I doubt you'll eed many 45 min sessions!)

This firm do a bag that looks like a pretty good substitute for a Bulgarian Bag at a fraction of the cost, looks a lot like this version from Wolverson:

Thanks very much for that link, it looks good and the small one takes up to 35kg?! Awesome!

I'm going to go to her gym again tomorrow evening and hit the bags again, I ached for 3 days solid after last time!
