I don't generally take a picture of my dinner in restaurants unless what I’ve chosen is out of the ordinary, for example, in Chicago I had deep dish pizza. Most people at home wouldn’t believe you could cram so much cheese into one meal! It also formed part of the holiday memories.

I won’t take a picture of a standard steak and chips at a local pub though

My thoughts exactly. I try and avoid restaurants where people are in the habit of doing this.

I have a personal dislike for photographs of food of any kind and have never, ever photographed a dish before eating it.

So, in answer to the original question, 'Yes!'

If I'm out and about and eating something worthy of a photo. I do tend to do it on the sly most of the time as the misses glares at me like bd if I get my phone out and start taking pictures!

I just tell her its a habit bought on by people on the tinternets.

I love photos of meals. It's great when you are looking for inspiration for a special meal. And when it comes to taking pics in restaurants, if you don't go to them all the time and it's a special treat, then it's quite nice to have a memento of a good meal.

I have taken the odd photo, but not every course every time. I want to enjoy the food and most of the time it's hard to get a photo that does it justice. (maybe I need to go on that course).

In Hong Kong the locals do it all the time. It's actually quite useful as we have a website here, OpenRice that has restaurant reviews, and these are full of photos. Great for checking out the food!

Rarely do you see a table of diners taking more than a few shots of their food. Most don't do it at all and those who do tend to do it discreetly and without flash.

They're paying for the occasion whether it's fine dining or a burger bar. Therefore they get to choose if they snap or not.

I tend to photograph most noteworthy meals to share on here or Instagram. Never have I caused offence in a restaurant, although I admit my wife gets a bit annoyed from time to time.

Five years ago I'd have thought it absurd to share pictures in such a way. It goes to show how smart phones and the digitisation of photography, as well as 3G and wireless has changed how we share things with our friends and those Internet folk like you lot.

I do think those that moan about it are generally missing the point. There are many food lovers out there and it's really no different to taking shots of other memorable occasions which they'd no doubt deem acceptable.

I'll happily take photos of food I've cooked at home but would not dream of taking a photo in a restuarant. For some reason I find that a bit weird. silly
