OOOH I'M MAD!!
Discussion
Just thought I'd vent my anger...
A few weeks back I took my new Liz to my new local dealership to show them some serious wear around the horn button on the steering wheel. It was like this afetr a few weeks of ownership. They told me initially it would be covered under warranty and ordered the part. When the part was in they told me it wasnt under warranty and it would cost £90 (just for the centre leather bit) PLUS £45 to fit it!! I told them that the part literally just pops off and the new one pops on and I could fit it in about 30 seconds. They refused on the grounds that i would be incapable of it.
Anyway after stamping my feet and throwing my toys out of my pram, they arranged for "James" from Lotus to have a look at it. James, a very nice Lotus man, took one look said he had never seen anything like that before and agreed immediatly to cover it under warranty - great. He then proceeded to fit the new one in ten seconds flat. I then said in front of him and the manager of the dealership that the dealership was going to charge me £45 to fit it! The manager laughed it off.
Anyway, another problem I had was some blistering in a semi circle around the boot catch. The dealership said it wouldnt be covered under warranty - "James" (the nice man from Lotus) recognised the problem immediatly and has ordered for it to be fixed gratis.
Morale of the story, stick to your guns and dont let a dealership dictate to you wht can and cant be done...dont they know who I think I am...dont they know I'm a pistonhead. Hurahh!!

I can see why they tried to charge for the work (i.e. so they got some kind of recompense for their time)
Why? Work completed and covered under warranty should be billed back to Lotus not the consumer.
Absolute rip off merchants - £45 for a few minutes work. It's exactly this kind of crap that gives car dealers a bad name.
Well fought that man!

Dealerships do take the p1ss a little. Mine is due some rear pads. They wanted circa £100 for the pads. Yeah, not much profit in that! Then had the gall to say it would be 45 minutes labour to fit them! What! When I'm already paying for the car to be up on ramps, wheels off as part of the service? Suffice to say, they didn't get the work. Had they have been a little less greedy, e.g. said they wouldn't charge me the labour, they'd still have made £50 profit of the pads at little cost to them.

My experince of a local dealer was to find out that they had claimed under waranty & then tried to charge me as well!
The nice man was also very interested in the list of parts they had used that were never used (well never appeard on 'my' car).
Not sure what happend with the dealership/manufacturer relationship but I did pass it on to trading standards.
And no I did not pay and have never been back.
I think there must be a lot of people who just say OK to any bill and take whatever story is given.
