Mini help, please

I'm after some help valuing a Mini Cooper I've just inherited from my uncle. Although I race classics, I don't know much about Mini's and prices do seem to wander all over the place.

The car is a Mini Cooper Mk2, 1968. It was fully restored in the early 1990's and has been kept in a heated garage since my uncle's health began to deteriorate. Its done about 1,000 miles since, mainly to the MOT station each year, and has never seen rain. The body and interior are in cracking condition and there's absolutely no rust. The engine is non-original, a 1275 unit (from a GT, my aunt thinks), and the suspension has been converted from wet to dry. Other than that, its on Minilites but I have the original steel wheels.

Any thoughts welcome - I'm very tempted to keep it, but no room with the 968 and the G18.

I'll give you a fiver and a halibut for it.

Its all dependent on condition really. people like original unmessed ones but if its a good one its will still be worth 5k plus at a guess.

Depends on the actual condition and originality. Heavily restored cars are not appreciated in the way original cars are. All Minis rust therefore a good original is very rare and valuable. I do think your car would sell probably for around £5000 but it could reach more if there is a real history with the car and it is substantially original. There are a lot of dubious questionable Minis about I am sorry to say.

Also clarify if it was a Cooper or a Cooper S, the 1275GT engine did it come with the gearbox or was it mated to the original? Rear sub frames are most prone to rust as are the floors, A panels in front of the doors in addition to the usual wings etc.

Thanks again. No pics yet, I can't collect it till the executors have done there stuff, but it's white with a black roof.

Not sure about the box, but it's definitely a Cooper not Cooper S.

As already mentioned - complete with Cooper running gear - 998cc engine, 12G295 head, D-top pistons and and the correct gearbox (remote) and 7" discs and it'll be worth considerably more - myabe 9-10K if a minter. People are paying mega bucks for originality every since D**kheads like Quentin Wilson got involved in the pre-'60 Mini scene. some of the numbers being bandied about are madness.

A few pics of the car and its general condition will help - the 1275cc motor will be attractive proposal to some people.

id say 5-10 depending on the condition of the body

mk2's are no where near as desirable or valuable as mk1's (they are so much more plainer inside - which is good for resoration costs, but they dont look as good)
