How long have you had the car, why haven't you claimed from the dealer?

Sorry to hear your story. On the upside, because they are so simple, there's only so much that can go wrong with them. Your issues seem to have come along at once but once sorted you should be ok for a good while.

Not quote clear on the issue with the engine - was it rebuilt and warranted but not by the usual trusted names?

Struggling to understand how you can refit an engine and cause a head gasket failure unless you have coolant leaks all over it. Has any one explained what contributed to the head gasket failure.

On the positive side, you own a TVR, which is brilliant. Great decision!

And you are ironing out the creases during the coldest & worst time of year for driving, so by the time spring comes round, you will have a fully working and raring to go beast.

Hopefully you will be able to have a trouble free year from now on and can enjoy it, you'll soon forget the troubles with the wind in your hair and the sound of the car.

Hmmmm... I think I would be talking a bit more with Dom. A head gasket shouldn't go pear shaped after 1000 miles unless the garage made a total balls of refitting the motor and getting everything wrong. Dom is usually a reasonable man.

I didnt check anything other than send my Wife and a Nephew to have a look at the first Tuscan that I bought.
Engine lasted 34 miles before it was clear she needed a rebuild.
My first bill was 11,800 quid after she spent the first 5 months of ownership in the garage having a long list of other jobs sorted along with the rebuild.
Had to sell my Chi,aera to help pay the bill.

I spent a further 10k on her over the next 2 years before righting her off on a greasy road frown

Certainly learned a thing or two about being patient.
Actually dont regret it as she was a fantastic machine after the repairs thanks to Ian at TorqueRVT and Jason at Str8Six

Still loved the car to bits.

I sent my son to look at my car at TVR-Mads.

Agreed a deal and it was sent to X-Works Kirkham, by James, for a once over by them before I collected it.

I've been really pleased with the dealer, the garage and the car so far.

Just want to get back out there in the better weather.

Hope that you get your's sorted.

I'm still not getting how you end up with a bill for £6k with what you have described but good luck with it.

If all you need to do is pay for engine removal and refit how come it's £6k? If this includes £1500 for work already done then it's not £4500 to remove and refit an engine.

Dom would only charge you a days labour @£55 an hour

I were you, I would pay TVR Power for the engine removal/refit, not someone else at this point. Obviously there are other issues too...

What I don't understand is that you brought it from a dealer, was there no warranty from them

Same here - the cost of removal refit locally will be a lot more than the cost to have it shipped to Dom. If it is only a head gasket then surely there's no need to remove the engine to sort it?
Sounds a bit iffy to me as the HG is something that would have been replaced on rebuild by Dom so I'm assuming the garage that refitted it has seriously screwed up along the way - Doms a good bloke and will certainly see you right but if he hasn't fitted the engine I totally agree he shouldn't bear costs in that regard (though I know you realise that already).
Have you spoken to the garage that removed and refitted it? You mention they are one of the garages authorised by Dom to do so - if so can you not see if Dom can put some pressure on them?

I decided to have Dom remove, upgrade and re-install my engine, even though X-Works are authorised by Dom to do the work. Always better if the responsibility is retained by one company.
X-Works will continue to service as an approved garage and so preserve the 5 year warranty. I can understand Dom applying conditions on his warranty.

I think you should edit your "My Garage" section within your profile to say where you bought your Tuscan, as this thread is giving TVR dealers up North a bad name.
