Hi All,

I'm going to start racing this year. I have a decent budget and want to do it properly but don't want to get ripped off.

Can anyone advise what I should be looking to pay for full support in say a 968 for the PCC for the season? I would want the support guys to store, prepare and deliver the car to each race and prefer an "all in" price.

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

You will have to ask them. I assume you're talking about the Porsche Club Championship, the teams that have run 968s for people with some success include:
EMC Motorsport, Strasse, County Classics and NineX.

It could be worth posting this up on the PH Porsche forum as there are a few lads on there who are involved in motorsport.

Jevs - why the 968?? You could have a Production Class Porsche Boxster on track in the BRSCC Championship for roughly a similar initial outlay. You'll find it's a very friendly and approachable series.

Cost depends on what you want to achieve. If it is your car that someone else is preparing then I would say cost would be 300quid per day plus expenses. Any work on your car would be charged per job, so a new clutch would cost a similar price to having the job done at a back street garage.

The 300quid would probably include a spanner check.

If you want an arrive n drive using their car I would expect it to cost approx 1200-1500 all in inc insurance per day. It might be a bit cheaper overall if you are testing the day before the race. A 10 race championship inc 10 test has got to be around 20 -25 k all in.

A word of warning though I would be keen to have as part of any agreement a pro rata rebate for a mechanical failure preventing you from completing the event. This should go someway towards weeding out the charlatans who clearly can't prepare a car.

Also choose a team that can demonstrate some success. Cheap deals are cheap for a reason

Perhaps because they have an excellent track record of winning races (and the PCGB series) over recent years against 911 and Boxster opposition?

I have no idea where you got that number from but I can't even run my own 944 in the PCC for that amount per weekend. Its £1K realistic minimum without insurance, north of £1500 including insurance and testing, in my own car!

Realistically including insurance you are looking at well north of £2K per weekend to race in some one elses Porsche more like £3K. Realistic budget for a season is £15K PA minimum in your own car and I know guys who have spent north of 3 times that to compete at the front in a car fully supported by a successful team.

1500 quid per day? 2 day weekend, = ?????

They tend to try and run the double headers all on one day recently rather than splitting things over the weekend. Personally I much prefer meets like the now traditional Britcar Silverstone season ender where its quali + race 1 on the Friday then 2x races on the Saturday.

Its a fantastic championship all on great tracks this year but very costly.

I'd take an educated guess at £3000 a weekend. That does not include body damage, mechanical damage and insurance.

This is an interesting thread coz its sounding like a 968 would cost about the same on arrive and drive as my Boxster is costing.

I can't think of any reason why there would be much difference to be honest. The costs associated with the car are so similar, I believe our entry fees and tyres are more costly than for you guys in the Boxster championship. Over a season your championship must run out a bit cheaper.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replies and advice, it really was quite useful.

I've managed to whittle it down to two teams for Porsche Club and have meetings on Friday to choose who I am going to go with.

Here's hoping for a first season championship victory...yeah right!!
