DAB car radio's? Is this normal?
Discussion
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I did look for an 'ICE' forum before posting.
Anyway, bought myself a new, top of the range Kenwood radio last week. Looks nice, great sound etc, BUT, when I turn it on it has forgotten all the settings from last use and I have to search for the stations again. Takes 2 mins or so, not a long time, but annoying to have to do each time. Also if I save a station (1,2,3,4,5 etc) then it will forget that too when the ignition is off.
Is this normal with DAB radio's, do you have to search each time? Or should it be like normal radio where you turn it on and the stations are on the same frequency as before?

Your radio should remember the preset stations. It sounds as though it's incorrectly wired. Did you fit it yourself?HOGEPH said:
Slight thread creep, but my car radio has very poor reception, loses the station every couple of minutes, or finds it difficult to locate stations (other than Radio 1), I've checked the aerial connection in the back and changed the roof aerial. any other suggestions?
Is the aerial you have fitted amplified?ETA; patronising, I know, but it seems the obvious answer to me at this time in the morning.....

Is it in the Golf? I haven't seen it for a while but sometimes you used to get some water ingress into the aerial leads where they were hooked up to the roof. Has the aerial ever been changed from the OEM? Just cos it looks pretty doesn't mean it functions well as an aerial.

Yes, it is a Golf! Not an OEM aerial, the original perished. I'll look in the roof. Thanks.
Before you assume I am some sort of soothsayer I did check your profile first.Depending on if you have any slack it can sometimes be useful for trim 1/2 inch off each end in case there is any corrosion in the wire.
It could also be worth replacing the aerial itself, some of the aftermarket ones are just pretty bits of plastic and not really much use at all.

Does your car have any load on the battery? My signal drops slightly when I put my HIDs on (I know I know, mine are at least lined up properly with projectors and washers)Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
