In my first five minutes of browsing through GG this morning I've read that the P1 is 'pointless' and that the M5 is 'not an enthusiasts car'.

We've always had the odd muppet on here and I've probably gone full retard myself a couple of times, but is the beast that is modern-day PH now attracting people who don't like cars but just like internets?

Time for an entrance exam says I...topics to include a discussion on the merits of amberisation, a research question on finding a suitable bargain barge and a multiple choice section testing one's ability to list the bork potential of a range of unreasonably cheap almost-classics!

I remember when it were all fields round 'ere...

But yes, there is an ever increasing Mr Shouty/Lolzcats element and the pure car enthusiasts are being diluted.

There used to be some comedy gold on these forums, but it's few and far between these days.

You've only to look at the Audi Bashing and the Audi Tainted threads to see what PH has become.

Too many feeble minded mouth breathers regurgitating what they've seen on Top Gear as fact and obsessed with the perceived "image" and "status" of cars.

I loathe the M5 and all the "performance" saloons.

I quite dislike it when someone voices an opinion, which happens to be one shared by Clarkson, who then gets accused of being a feeble-minded mouth-breather.

In the really old days I thought it was an Alfa? And I'm talking pure Italian not Datsun Cherries.

No, I've only been here for 130 months. It just seems like always because you're a newbie.

Haven't we all? hehe

Seriously though, you can't say people don't deserve to be on PH just because they don't agree with you. I don't consider the M5 to be primarily an enthusiasts car because most of the owners I know aren't really enthusiasts. I don't consider very many things to be primarily enthusiasts cars, for that very reason.

I'm all for it. One criterion should be the ability to correctly spell Alfa Romeo. Way too many people spelling it with a PH!

I thought you had to be an old money chap to be here.

Some people posting apparently get cars on finance. Some posters may even be women!

Now where's the key to my Bristol.....aah, in the pocket of my tweed jacket.

Rochelle,

I have two cars:
  • 1999 BMW 528i
  • 2011 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI
Tell me more about these cars than I can, every single time

GO!

Nope not Alfa's, lets face it, as a brand they've not really made anything all that great or interesting that's attainable for decades. Most of what they churn out is humdrum mass produced dross like the rest of the mass market.

Also Alfa's aren't sold in some countries, so it kind of counts them out as a brand to own when they are pretty much unknown and unavailable.

But hay, if owning a creaky fwd remobile grade hatchback is what counts to be a true PH'er, then maybe an Alfa is the right choice.

There is nothing more PH than rashly posting a "fact" that isn't true.

MX5, heavily modified by me over 5 years, including making my own carbon panels for it. Teach me.

Alfa's can't fit the bill as that is Clarkson drivel and were not top gear we are PH'ers much more antiquated. hehe
