Oil Temp Gauge Not Working
Discussion
Well on my way to work today, an uneventful ride as usual in the Esprit. However, when I got to work and parked the car, I noticed the oil temp gauge was not reading anything. It was a tick above where it is off but nothing more. Tap the gauge and no response. Any ideas where to look first? The car has oil and it was working fine yesterday. Could someone tell me where the sending unit is located? if it is anything like my Talon, I am assuming the connector came off or broke off.
Car is a 1994 Esprit S4.
Any help, always appreciated.
Thanks.

Here's a picture of the senders. The orange arrow (leftmost) points to the oil temperature sender. Due to the inaccessibilty of this sender when the starter is in place, Lotus added a short pigtail connector attached to this which the connects via an inline spade to the wiring harness.

Sanj, off the subject, but while I thought about it, are you familiar with the "econ" (economy) light on the 87 T-type? While having all belts serviced, mechanic must have disconnected the sender unit. Since my service, econ light no longer comes on (car runs great, I'm sure the economy feature is still working also). Do you know where the econ. connection is? I need some info. so my mechanic does not spend all day on an open ended search. Thanks.

Well, I'm no Bosch guy. I actually know a bit about TCCS, but i'll take a stab at it. First off, make sure the bulb is good. Next, according to the Bosch schematics, that light comes on only when the fuel bypass valve is energized. It looks to be triggered by a whole lot of things having to happen at just the proper time, and shuts off the fuel. If the bypass valve is not energized, you won't get the light. To be on:
1. coolant temp above 70 sensed by high temp switch
2. throttle closed (TPS)
3. Engine speed >1600 on rise, <1400 on fall, sensed by speed sensing relay.
So: Is the bulb good? Is the wiring good? (schematics say the bulb is electrically across this bypass valve. I would put 12v across the valve with the car off and see if the light comes on, but that is me.) Do all 3 of the above named sensors work? Then you have wiring between all the above. Have Phun.
