Having sold my 996 Turbo, I'm now looking for another car to fill its space in the garage, but this time preferably a manual gearbox, 4 seater cabrio. I have a few other cars but non are soft tops.. so this fill a specific roll for those sunny days & trips into Europe etc
I've always loved the look of E46 M3's , so have started looking into M3 cabrios.
Whats the general opinion on the M3's cabrios? Are they significantly more flexi than the tin top ? For road use is the driving experience similar?

I love my vert, fabulous car in EVERY single respect. I have a hard top for winter. It does everything so well and is a joy in summer. Scuttle shake is not a big issue IMO. Extra trut bracing and coilover upgrades make it handle as well as a stock coupe on bumpy roads.
The time to buy a vert is now, obviously. Prices of good examples are quite firm IMO, so if its looked after it should hold its value well.

I'm also looking these, and think they are great value. I guess it comes down to how fast you drive - my days of 'comiting' to corners as risking the lives of all those around me are long gone. I suspect that for the average driver that like to occasionally put his foot down in safe open conditions skutle shake isn't too much of an issue.
A mate owned a 54 plate convertible M3 for 5+ years and he still goes on about it now long after its been sold! If you want four seats, no roof and lots of fun there doesn't seem much out there for 10-15k to beat it.

agree with above but i would say if you just want a convertible 4 seater the E46 330ci ticks more boxes in that format. The M3 engine is a rever and not for cruising. Ive had both and if you want a 4 seater convert and dont want it to be very driver focused a 330ci makes better sense.

Great car as an all rounder. Plenty fast enough to bring smiles, practical enough to put children in the back and arguably great value at the moment. There isn't enough sun in this country these days is my only complaint. I'd recommend the manual over the SMGII as it is more involving
as above - agree, but clutch is heavy...i do remember coming through wales running with my friends 911 996 anniver, through corners the car would flex, the wing mirrors would wobble. It just was almost fighting itself if you up'ed it up a notch......agree on brakes (they nearly all do that). while down in Grasse in south france the same car we had to stop as we couldnt.....erm stop..brakes had faded beyond use on a mountain road....ok it was quick, but not a ideal....
