Does anyone knows of any courses that would benefit someone looking to gain employment in this field?

20 years ago I did a city and guilds 230 in cad cam which might help.

I think a lot of CNC machines use the manufacturers own software. You could research the makers of machines in your niche (wood, metal, precision etc) and try speaking to them about what software drives their systems.

Training is likely to be very expensive due to the specialist nature.

I would also suggest getting hold of some 3d cad software and moddeling bits in there. There are probably two parts to CNC: 1. Create the 'job' using software on a pc 2. Download the job to the CNC machine, load material and run the job

I just googled that C&G 230 - looks like it is long gone, but if you "google city and guilds CNC" there are some specific courses available.

How old are you Jambo? and where are you based?

In the north west we have places like training 2000 which are government funded to train and place apprentices into CNC setters/ ops / cad cam Engineering etc. I'm assuming other areas have similar...
