What's the symptom? Crap oil pressure? Anything else?

What year is it? Will need a few quid to fix. So £7k - £13k depending on yr and condition

What on earth do you base your 7 to 13k quote on?? when you have no idea what so ever what the problem is ??

Very hard to base a price on it with a issue like that. When you say faulty oil pump the potential for catastrophic engine failure is high. It could need a full re-build And that could cost 8-10k to do it right????

If the pump is at fault like mine was the chances are that it's spun crank Bering
Number 1
If that is the case then really it's an engine rebiiuld
Or it could be a blocked oil strainer wich you need to get the engine out to sort out

On earth because he describes the oil pump as failing.

ok lets be "Optimistic". insted of negative for a pistonheads tvr forum minute.
(1) oil press gage could be at fault £200
(2) oil pick up could be blocked £100
(3) oil pipe could be kinked
there could be as many cheap possible problems at expensive ones

You have to prepare yourself for the worst out come when buying a car with a fault or else you could end up a lot worse off.

If you buy it on the presumption it needs a engine rebuild but it's just a sensor then your quids in. If you buy it £100 under the going rate and its the engine then you f£@ked

There is no in depth diagnoses and if it was me personally buying the car i would always plan for the worst case. Not a pessimist at all smile just realistic. would rather be pleasantly surprised if it was any of the above issues smile

stevie from some one who buys tvr cerbera,s every day the best thing you can do is spend a little money on getting some one who knows what there doing to have a look, or bid on the car with the worst possible out come in mind, like an engine rebuild, always bid very low if your not dead sure , and always best to walk away and fight another day than buy some thing you can not aford to fix.

Because that wasnt the questioned asked. I dont disagree but I assume the OP is looking to pay the right money for a car needing work. Optimism will just drive up the price and could end badly.

Exactly. Thats why I quoted that range and why I asked what age it is. So assuming it might be somewhere between 1998 and 2003 and it is in otherwise good condition but needs an engine rebuild. Whats it worth. I still say £7K to £13K but thats just my opinion.

so you would give 7k for a 98 that you think has a possible engine rebuild comming up ??

As a way of a compare- this S6 is in fine fettle but just needs £900 spent on it plus some paint. The paints expensive but the car is priced accordingly....

i think the best advice for this lad would be to get some one to have a proper look at the car who knows there stuff, and he could end up with a cracking car cheap that needed next to nothing doing to sort it, or he could end up with a lemmon that needs 10k spent on it
