Thought it was time to share a few photos in honour of my love of the 5 series.

This was my first - bought it brand new just before they discontinued the E39 (a 530i Sport) - financial suicide but it was the best car I could find to carry 3 children, honest. Lovely car, I had a little cry when it went. It was a car you always loved driving, just so right.

Replaced it with the E60 530d M Sport which I kept for 6 years and a 130k miles. Never spent a penny apart from consumables. Great engine, love the look still, but not quite as spot on to drive as the E39. Intended to keep it until it fell apart but realised that weas never going to happen.

So swapped it for this - nice new F10 535d M Sport. Only had a couple of months but I have to say it is stunning, I love the looks, much better put together than the E60 and the engine is frankly an amazing piece of engineering - really quick, quiet, effortless to drive and amazingly efficient.

Enjoy!

Had a nose round an F10 a few weeks ago. Build quality seemed leagues ahead of the E60. Driven a few E60 3.0d. Lovely engine, smooth and torquey. Just couldn't get on with the interior, seemed quite depressing.

E39's are such a nice thing. Inside and out they're looked great in their day and still look handsome today. Better build than the E60 imo.

Enjoy your 535 smile

Love the E39, think that with the sport kit they still look great. Had a go in a F10 535d, teamed with that 8 speed box a hell of a car, bloody quick too!

You like a 5 series then. I can't blame you, all 3 of them are lovely cars

Lovely cars, I've been in a few and the 53xD series is truly superb for covering miles, efficiently and sometimes rapidly!

I know the F10 has taken some criticism over its look but I really like it!

I went out in an F10 hybrid, now there is a clever bit of kit, just amazing and I'm not a huge BMW fan....

Yes, it would appear so! When I bought the latest one, I didn't even think about any other car as nothing else appeals or seems to have the balance of comfortable crusiing with the ability to enjoy making progress when desired.

It was interesting looking at the old photos, how nice the E39 looks. I like the fact it doesn't have the height up to the windows which necessitate the big wheels on the later models. It was always just so right to drive and felt a bit more compact than the later models - you always got out of it with a smile on your face. That said, I know not everyone likes the F10 looks but I genuinely like them and have been surprised how many people have complimented it. It is definitely a return to BMW quality which was missing a bit in the E60 (certainly inside), it deals with the run flats much, much better and as someone else said the 8 speed box really is a fantastic bit of kit which makes the most of the engine. It has various modes and flappy paddles which all works well but they aren't really needed with this engine! I was always impressed by the 530d engine but this takes it to another level and you can't fail to be impressed by BMW engineering. I really don't think anyone would drive it and guess it was a diesel (other than the fact they were in a 5 series of course biggrin)

Very nice! I like the looks of the lastest Five; I probably prefer it to the previous model and strongly prefer it to the E39. They're tremendously popular on here, but for me at least, the E39 and E46 are perhaps a little frumpy when compared to the styling of preceeding and subsequent BMWs.

Love the E39 - they look great in post-lift sport form. For some reason the E60 never quite hit the sport for me design wise, but the F10 is a return to form for the 5er.

Very Nice,

I'm a huge fan of the F10 model. My old man has the 530d version, and that seems to go well enough.
