Can you choke on an ice cube?

My little one did painting with an ice cube today at nursery.

Made me think, is it possible to choke on one or would it melt in your throat before any damage was done?

This is just one ice cube of standard size

I suspect it would be easier to choke on a paintbrush than an ice cube.

Wrong end of stick. Just to confirm, I am not in any way worried about him choking on it. I just wondered if it was possible for anyone, even adults, to do so. Say you have a drink and you get an ice cube stuck.

To repeat, I am not worried, the thought of my child choking never crossed my mind.

IIRC if your airway is completely blocked you have 30 seconds until you fall unconscious and 3 minutes until brain damage occurs. If you're on your own, you'd need it to melt within 30 seconds. I'd imagine that the ice cube would melt enough as to not complete block your airway in that time.

My brother once stuck an ice cube straight on his tongue from the freezer. It stuck, he panicked, pulled it off and took all the skin from his tongue with it.
