glasgow to newcastle
Discussion
First off great site backed with loads off info.looking on advice as will be driving from greenock to jurys inn in newcastle and was wondering the best route to take and avoid as many speed cameras as possible as not used to long drive like this before was looking going via m8 to dumfries carlise then head along A69 am not a speed. Fast driver just looking for easy route and plenty off warning signs along route and advise speed limits for roads ahead and speed camera locations and proper speed limit thanks in advance oaktree
With the best of intent, I've read your post several times and can't work out what you're asking.
If you're looking for speed cameras then http://www.speedcameramap.co.uk/ may help.
The M8 goes to Edinburgh then you can go round to the A1 and down that way. It's a pretty dull drive but gets you there.
The A74M goes to Carlisle and is a bit more interesting, if you're the sort of person who can find a motorway interesting. The A69 from Carlisle to Newcastle has good bits but there's also a high chance of spending most of your time at 40mph behind a lorry or queue of cars.
Be careful when overtaking on the A69 as oncoming traffic may be traveling faster than you expect. It also gets used regularly by farmers. HGV's can can leave quite bad tramlines that fill with water and become black ice, though this may have been fixed by now as it's quite some time since I lived up north.
If you're after something a bit more entertaining then head out towards Peebles and from there towards the A696. This is by far my favorite route though it'll add half an hour or so to your journey. Twisty roads, less traffic than the main routes and nice scenery.

Thanks a lot tartan pixie you anwserd my question spot on, sorry for confusion as at work and trying to multi task lol,was just looking for best route. Should have been best route from greenock to newcastle time not an issue and was just wanting to avoid speed cameras thanks again oaktree
Be very careful on the A69 in Cumbria if you aren't used to it as the local Talivan like to operate without warning signs (and on M6 south of Gretna too!).
It's definitely quicker to come down past Carlisle though - I'd turn off the M6 at Jct 44 and take the A689 to Brampton then the A69 thereafter (this will be a lot quicker than the A69 from Jct 43 as it's mostly NSL and has plenty of straights for overtaking whereas the A69 has a long 30mph stretch and is busier with only a couple of realistic overtaking spots).
