Got a hole in my run flat tyre - it's a winter wheel with loads of tread and struggling to get a new one of same profile.

Is it possible to repair? I'm in Huddersfield/ Sheffield area

Thanks

it is possible, but most places will refuse, for safety reasons that apparently have nothing to do with trying to sell tyres at twice normal price

As above. I've had mine repaired twice but a few places said no. No way was I paying 800 quid for a new tyre when a 10 quid repair did the job perfectly well.

Try The Pit Stop up near the Audi/Merc garages - open sat mornings and will give you honest advice. I didn't use anyone else when I lived in Highburton for 6 years.

My tyre guy repairs them..

I questioned him about it and the reason being people don't like to repair is because of the damage to the sidewall when its run completely flat. It puts a score/crease on the inside of the sidewall where it has flexed excessively.

If its just lost a bit of pressure like if a nail has been stuck in it should be fine, it should be fine fully flat if its not been driven on for too long.. Best thing is to take the tyre off and see how its looking inside. Then decide.

If it's a puncture in the tread area, then its just like any other tyre, and can be repaired (and should by any fitter worth his salt)

If it's in the sidewall, then no, as that's where the pixie's make the magic happen.

WTF is that for? Most I've paid for a run-flat is a bit over 200 notes.

I rang no less than 4 places when one of mine went on the Z4. All refused some said it wasn't even possible to do. Took it to my local guy (dont know why I didnt in the first place) and he did it in ten minutes for a tenner and it was absolutely fine. I think if they are driven on while moderately flat they can damage the internals but if you're still topping up with air it'll be fine. Common sense really.

Wow. You've been mugged at that price. A quick check at Camskill shows that not like they're even large tyres. Perhaps this thread should go in the 'Tallest tales thraed' And yes should be repairable unless by the sidewall. Use a local place.

Most places have a good reason to refuse to repair a runflat.

You'd be scared by many of the "general population" don't realise they've got a flat when on runflats. Likewise, how many of them think it's ok to run them for a week before getting them looked at, because they're "only going to local places".

Runflats that have been run on for a long time aren't structurally sound, and half the idiots in this world don't know / don't care about how long the tyre has been running at low PSI.

If you explain the situation to the fitter, and come across like a car nut, they should "trust you" and fix it.

You will find the fitters are only following manufactures guideline 99 % of manufactures say they should not be repaired.
As average joe who knows nothing about his run flats may have run it flat for ages and just kept resetting system.
Find a local independent they usually will if you explain what has happened and come across as being a decent person that won't nail them to the wall should there be a future problem

I guess if you can afford a Phantom then £800 is peanuts.

This why you,
a) need TPM with runflats, and
b) if you have a slow puncture, keep topping up the pressure.

So long as you don't drive around on them at low/zero pressure a repair should be just as effective as in any other tyre.

And you don't get to afford a Phantom by throwing it away either.
