Gen1 is 3.6 and Gen2 is 3.8.

Currently about £20k difference between the cars and worth it in my opinion considering the Gen2 is 3 years newer.

???

Unless we are not talking generally, the 3.8 would mean the S and in most opinions is well worth the difference.

I have a Gen1 S but the 3.8 gen 2 seem quite rare on the used market, wondering if there is a reason, i.e the difference isn't as marked or desirable as the gen1.

they are rare especially in manual form.reason credit crunch so less built/ordered in 3 year lifespan.boxster/cayman 987.2 is the same.imho will be most sort after 996/997 in years to come even more so than a 981/991 which will exceed 9*7.2 numbers in their first year of production.
