I looked at one a while ago and it had quite a bit of rust on it. Mainly round the wheel arches.

Also check for damaged seats, trim etc as the seats are removable.

Other than that I'd suggest looking at equivalent Focus issues.

I ran one for a couple of years and about 60k. Nothing went wrong with it, it had tyres, oil and filters - that was it. A few rattles crept in and the interior trim was flimsy, the boot trim scratched easily and things rolled around in the boot as there wasnt a lip between the boot and rear seats. But mechanically it just had regular servicing at the specified intervals.

The 2.0 TDCi is a different engine to the others, I think it's a PSA engine and doesnt see the same issues as the Mondeo. It's quite nice to drive, you're just at the start of the boost range at 70 n 6th so handy for motorway overtakes.

ETA - mpg was lower than the Mondeo, it was a wider car and less aerodynamic, and probably had a different map. 50mpg was achievable on a run, anything approaching 60mpg needed a careful right foot. I averaged about 45, as they're quite fun to boot about on roundabouts and dont feel as top heavy as they look

Electric parking brake (not sure if standard on all models)

The wife had a C-max for a couple of months and it it got stuck on numerous occasions. Also it has no "drive away" function. I believe they dropped it in 2006 after lots of problems with sticking and premature rear disc wear.
