Interesting claim by Evo ed Harry Metcalfe on The Twitter this morning that insurers may not pay out if you have an accident in wintry conditions while wearing summer tyres.

It's here: https://twitter.com/harrym_evo/status/295107384735...

I've got nothing but love for HM and his terrific mag but I've heard of anything like this, nor has my insurance paperwork (to my recollection).

Anyone else?

I think if you had non-OEM cut slicks on and ditch-parked in wintry conditions you might find yourself having a discussion but aside from that I just can't see it.

Sure he's not referring to countries where winter tyres are mandatory?

I think he was being hypothetical, but he definitely wasn't talking about the current UK situation.

But our tyres are not specified as 'summer tyres', they are general driving tyres.

Yes you can buy better suited winter / snow tyres but the tyres that come on the cars are not summer use only.

- Surely....
