Pressure Spots
Discussion
Thought I'd start here before going to see the GP, so here goes...
I do quite a lot of sitting volleyball, all was well until I did two 3 hour sessions one after the other and had two large spots come up on my backside where the sit bones contact the floor.
They come up into large yellow heads then slowly go down, but as soon as I play again, bang up they come.
Being quite painful they are starting to affect my game and I want them gone.
I am trying to use gel padding but it doesn't stop it completely. We had 3 weeks off over xmas but even at the end of this I can still feel a lump there and as soon as we started playing again they are back up.
So, any idea how I can get rid of these?
Cheers

Erk! That ain't good - do talk to your GP but I suspect what you'll actually need is a Tissue Viability Nurse, and/or some sort of disability-savvy sports physio to look at your playing position and what options you have to protect yourself. Unfortunately most GPs just don't really have the knowledge/background to make much input, unless you get very lucky indeed and have one who is him/herself also a disabled sportsperson or with a very specific interest in pressure care.
Could you do shorter periods of time on-court while this is being sorted? Or at the very least, make a seriously conscious effort to get your weight off those 2 points every 15 minutes or so. I've known people use those Scholl feet-padding gel things taped on to the offending areas to some effect.
I'm wondering about your technique and how much you move around while playing - no criticism intended, I know feck-all about volleyball, sitting or otherwise, but I'm generally aware that there must be a LOT of people in a very similar boat to you impairment-wise and playing similar sports, and presumably they don't all have the same problem with pressure sores. Does your team have a coach?
Good luck. I'd be devastated if I was having problems generated by my 4h/week of playing (boccia, not volleyball) - ferocious grudge matches are good for the soul.
PS if you've got diabetes or anything else that has the potential to stuff up your circulation, make sure that it's being managed as well as possible too!

Cheers for the reply.
Never thought of that but I'll ask my physio for recommendations he may be able to point me in the right direction, as you say GP's in general are pretty pants hence why I thought I'd ask first.
I'm moving around a huge amount during training and do try to take the weight of it as often as possible, doesn't seem to make any difference though. The gel padding I'm using does help but keeping it place is a pain and I've ended up with it sandwiched between two pairs of tight lycra running shorts so wearing three pairs of shorts to train with.
Can't easily do shorter periods on court as we train once a week for 2-3 hours if it was a few times a week then I could. We do have a coach but he has a bit of a blind spot to any problems so we tend to work things out between us where possible.
No diabetes, have enough issue without anything extra at the moment
I'll txt my physio and see if he knows anyone I could see privately, never know I'm off to have an arthrogram on my right shoulder on Wednesday so may end up being told to leave sitting vb for a while depending on what's up with it
