Occasionally I'll peruse eBay for cars to cure my boredom and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find standard looking cars which haven't been ruined (I like cars to remain standard, rather than be chavved up)

You rarely see a completely standard (and read 'standard', not 'stock' you imbeciles)
MK1 Subaru Impreza/Any Mitsubishi Lancer EVO
Saxo VTS (pre facelift)
Toyota Supra
MK3 Golf GTI

This is as close as I get;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MITSUBISHI-Lancer-Evolut...

Notice the big exhaust, I'm sure that's not standard

I can understand that as they get cheaper, they can fall into the reach of some of the types of people who consider modifying a car within an inch of its life a good thing. But it seems to cost more turning a car back to standard and for me it certainly is more desirable come sale time if the car has been unmolested.

Each to their own I suppose. What other cars do you never see standard these days?

Most of the 90's cruise scene classics it's quite hard to find a standard one (but still possible of course)

Escort RS
Fiesta RS
Sierra RS
Nove GTE/GSI
Astra GTE/GSI
Renault 5 GT Turbo
Pug 205 GTI

In fact, coming to think about it, i'm struggling to remember the last time i actually seen any of the above, let alone a standard one!

What a load of nonsense.

What you'll find is more likely is that a 'specialist' car like the ones bound to be mentioned in this thread are more likely to be owned by an enthusiast, and enthusiasts are more likely to realize that a factory standard car will have been built down to all sorts of restrictions and can always be improved upon with some sort of modification.

Go look at the number of R34/R35 GTRs or 911 Turbos sporting modification and tell me it has something to do with price rolleyes...

I think it's more about cheaper cars ending up badly modified. Obviously there are well modified cheap cars and badly modified expensive cars, but they tend to be more tastefully done higher up the scale.

Of course, this is completely ignoring the fact that it's all down to personal taste and preference.

E36 M3s are getting increasingly hard to find without some "tasteful" or otherwise modifications...

agree with this. while theres lots of badly done saxo's for example, theyre very capable in standard form but can be easily improved with a 35mm drop. ruined with a 90mm drop though....

Indeed, a boggo one in decent nick would be quite desirable now.

Pretty much any VW older than 10 years old. They've all been stanced, Euro'd, ratted, or generally violated.

Some light mods are desirable in an old car to me, it shows that the owner cares about the car and has some sense on how to maintain and run it.
Things like exhausts, upgraded brake pads, tasteful aftermarket alloy wheels, etc are all good imo. Obviously stay away from anything that has been barried.

Nissan skylines are rare standard under the bonnect or cosmetically

Sierra and escort cosworths engine wise are hard to find standard I don't know why you'd have one with standard power seeing as its so easy and cheap to extract alot of extra power reliably

Hardly ever seem to find a Toyota starlet GT Turbo or Starlet Glanza V as standard. Bit annoying imo.

Yep - seems to be a pathological desire to mod, usually to the detriment of the car.
