Hi all

Time for me to change car again and the great and good of PH always come up with a winner.

I'm no yoof unfortunately so a slammed and pimped hot hatch probably wont do it really.
For the above reason insurance isn't an issue, economy isn't that much of a worry as work is only a few miles away.

What is important is fine handling and performance in a package that will withstand normal daily.

Other than that let your imaginations run free smile

If you're tempted by the 540i I'd suggest considering an E36 328i touring.

Good balance of performance and economy and in touring form quite practical. Plus can be had with a manual (auto really stunts the economy).

There's a rather nice silver Mercedes CLK 430 currently on £2000 being auctioned on ebay. 290bhp on tap, a burbling V8 under the bonnet and a very mature choice, I think.

This, as long as you don't need 4 seats.

I used mine as a daily driver for 3 years. Fit luggage for 2 for 2 weeks holiday in the boot, could fit my bike in the passenger seat and a couple more on a boot rack, hovered around 30mpg, comfy enough for long distance driving, bombproof engine as long as you don't go silly with it, handles great and goes like stink. I think I'd struggle to find something that ticks so many boxes (granted, there are a few it can't tick) for around the £2k mark.

Legacy GTB, quick and handles well. Practical too, I've just got a mountain bike, baby seat (and baby) and dog in mine!

+1 on the Soarer, Impreza or MR2T. Plenty of Jags to consider at this money too. Might even nab a Porsche 944 or Lotus Excel.
