I was sat watching Police! Camera! Drink-Driver! last night, and quite apart from the hypocrisy of having that blundering idiot Alistair Stewart presenting it, I found myself wondering why The Law doesn't come down harder on TV motoring journalist types?

It's illegal to drive while using a mobile phone, because apparently it's a distraction.

However, apparently it's perfectly legal to drive on public roads whilst repeatedly taking your eyes off said roads to talk into a camera affixed to your windscreen (presumably not blocking the driver's vision, though.)

Why is that?

At one point, the presenter (who's name escapes me) took his eyes off the road for a good 3-4 seconds to gawp at the camera. Surely that's DWDCA?

I think sometimes they use quiet country lanes they close off but don't hold me to that.

I know, hence "Police! Camera! Drink-Driver!" and me talking about the hypocrisy of having him present the program wink

He's a *twice* convicted drink driver, no less. Four times over the limit the second time around.

Any of those cheapo shows full of Car crash clips certainly won't have the budget to stretch to hiring a towing trailer or even hiring somewhere like Millbrook to do in car PTCs. That will all be done by the high tech method of a cameraman sitting in the passenger seat, and any tracking shots will be the cameraman sitting in the boot of an estate, with the producer driving carefully on a quiet public road, and hoping they don't run into the cops. I've done it many many times
