I just can't work out how this cashback stuff works. Please could someone enlighten me as to their business model?

Call me old fashioned but I just like to see a straightforward price that's good value for the item in question...

If you click on an advertising banner on a random website and go on to buy a product that website receives commission from the company you bought from.

Quidco is effectively a site with all the advertising on that then passes on the commission to you when you make a purchase.

Quidco take a £5 fee per year (but only if you actually received a minimum of £5 cashback)...it works and is not a scam - use it!

I have had £000's back over the last 4 or 5 years.

Think of it like an advertising budget. A company will spend some on TV ad's, some on newspapers, some on prompotions in a store (3 for 2) etc etc. Now imagine some is given to you if you buy through Quidco, as a method of enticing you in.

I also wish the world was simpler but then I pay about 15 different taxes each year...

You can also register your cards with Quidco and earn cashback without realising it, on both online and in-store transactions. Its a no-brainer really.

AFAIK search engines and annoying car insurance screenscrapers use broadly the same model.

Companies pay to be listed on a website. Instead of the money going to them you get to keep it (bar £5 a year)

That isn't what happens. What happens is what I stated above smile
