Quite right too. If kids want to borrow a car they should be bloody grateful. If they don't like it, buy their own.

They're forgetting kids are devious buggers. They'll find a way around it.
What immediately springs to mind is buying their own key on the quiet, after all £30 isn't a lot if cash.
Or simply disconnect the battery and reconnect - should sort the problem!

Interesting that you can set the max speed in each gear. Not sure I'd want my brand new Fiesta being bounced on an artifical fuel cut limiter at 30mph in 2nd gear. Set the limits and kids will still rag a car right up to them.

what is the betting that pulling 1 abs fuse will render most of the software limiting useless, if that is the case it will get figured out in about 24hours and be all over the internet within a week, meaning that kids wanting to speed without their parents permissions will be not only able to do it, but will have to do it without any esp abs or anything

I've just picked up my new FIesta Titanium and it has this fitted. It's actually quite clever, for example the main key is the admin key and the spare the restricted key. You programme it through the on board computer with the admin key in. Will do things like mute the audio until the seatbelt is buckled! Haven't played around with it fully as I'm the only driver of my car but hey lol.

The 1.0 engine is a little gem though!

What happens if you lose the master key? Are you stuck in "teenager mode" forever?

I doubt it, it'll probabley be the same for every car, trip to the dealers and pants around your ankles time.

It's not a bad idea and it's a refreshing change for a manufacturer not charging the earth to have it fitted. £50 a key isn't bad either.

However, it may be handy to limit the engine to 4,000rpm and setting a limiter to 60mph, to stop little jimmy racing but he's still going to be able to fk around in a car park. What could you set to stop skidding starts, flooring it in first around a drive-thru to get it to understeer, driving too fast on a twisty country road, doing handbrake turns etc.?

Does the on-board recorder record Gs?

so, your kid is halfway though an overtake of a lorry, hit's the 'speed limiter' lorry speeds up a little, your kids dead when the oncoming truck then hit's him.

let me guess, your answer to that is little jonny should not overtake cause (in the words of BRAKE) overtaking is dangerous.

Why is Neil Lyndon a motoring journo?

He seems to have a real downer on cars.

So they limit the car to 60... Little Johnny is now a hazard on motorways and dual carriageways and is still able to do double the speed limit around housing estates.
