Hi people

Iam looking at a career change and the NEBOSH is something im seriously considering.

Iam currently working in close protection in Iraq for oil and gas clients, but its 8 weeks away from home at a time with just 3 weeks at home and i have a 4 year old daughter so its far from ideal.

Before working out here i was in the marines and before that i was a coded welder working on petrochemical sites so i do have an understanding of the principles of health and saftey,i can even remember some nuemonics and acts!

If i do go on to do NEBOSH, i will eventually go on to do the oil and gas aswell,

iam just trying to guage the demand for NEBOSH qualified personel at home or abroad and how hard it will be to break into.

is my previous experiance in another career likley to be beneficial in this field?

thanks for reading.

Skills and qualifications in that field are always required; a search of related job ads will confirm that. Experience of managing risk will also be key, so your current and previous roles will provide opportunity I am sure to demonstrate that too. Finally, which sector you go in to to deploy those skills will be dependent I feel on where you will fit best; I suspect working for some organisations may not suit your character or temperament (which is the same for all of us), so choose carefully. Good luck!

I've did the nebosh general 10 years ago and some of it can be quite mind numbing over the content and what you do have to learn and the nebosh exam criteria is quite strict.

There is work in the petro chemical industry but you have to have previous experience or they won't touch you or know someone in the right channels. By the sounds of it you should be ok with the contact side of things.

If you email me i have a couple of old exam papers that maybe of use.
