Restorataion price

Hi

1st time poster.

I was wondering if I could get a little advice.

I've been offered a rolling shell MK1 Cortina,

I can also get a Cosworth engine, LSD, Loom etc from the same guy that is ready to drop in.

I am going to speak to a few companies but could anyone give me a rough idea of how much I would be looking at to get the work done? Shell looks striped back in VGC.

Just need to know if its at all viable before I start dreaming!!!

Go out and buy a good one.

But if you have your heart set on this one, and cannot do any of the work yourself, and want it brought up to a proper standard, budget on about £30K.

Wise words, unless you have the will and time go on the hunt for a good restored example , pick up a engine box etc later and plan the change over well. have all parts ready to fit .
Its costs min 30k to bring a even half decent shell upto a worth while standard, the bodywork and paint will tke 8 -10k but it does not stop there with costs.

guess I'm a dreamer, nevermind...

maybe I'll pick up an mk1 essy with a 170st engine in, hopefully be ok for the daily runner!

I know these things are getting pricy but!!
If it's a rolling shell - all suspension in decent nick, good brakes etc
He's been offered an engine (with all ancilliaries?)
He could get it painted for less than £10k depending on the finish he wants. He seems to need a daily driver.
Don't know what he has to pay for the stuff offered

But as a dreamer he is now looking for a Mk 1 Escort....

I was offered the shell with the cossie engine (and other parts) for ~£4k...

seems topish?? always liked the mk 1 essys from when I was a kid but had a soft spot for the MK 1 tinas too

just thought if it could be done all in under 10k I could flog my bora and I'd have a car that wasn't going to depreciate.

but if I have to buy the car running I'd go for an essy - i think???

The rule is that it will cost at least 3x what you expect and take about 5x longer to do.

When a bike resto can take 100 hours easy - think what a car can cost......

What V8 said is, if anything, a bit conservative.

A full professional restoration to "as new" condition of a tired old car is going to cost, I'd say, a bare minimum of £30,000. And at that price don't expect a show winner and it had better be a car where parts are available, plentiful and cheap (MGB, 65 Mustang, etc).

A Lincoln like the ones I'm stupid enough to play around with would cost roughly $100,000 to do a total restoration on and that's assuming you start with a solid car that's all there. I may have found a holy grail '58 Lincoln that needs everything. If I buy it and do it myself ill spend $40,000 saving the car.
