Porsche owners getting abused ?
Discussion
I saw this review and was saddened to read owners of 911's get the 'Porker salute'-
does this really happen? if so what a poor reflection on society!

..I does happen I'm afraid, I have experienced many such salutes, usually when overtaking someone, the timing of such overtakes on some occasions were so 'dangerous' that I could have dropped back behind the car and passed it a second time before it was close enough to cause the oncoming driver any distress, you guessed it 'the salute'.., The last time this happened was white van man, and both driver and passenger were doing the salute.
If I'm in my shed, on roundabouts and junctions a lot of drivers are curtious and often flash / wave you out, maybe they feel sorry for me driving a shed covered in mould, gaffa tape and dents, by contrast if I'm in the 911 the polar opposite generally applies, some folk will drive at you on roundabouts, or pull up to the bumper of the car in front with the sole intention of shutting the gap and trying to cause a head on.. just call it envy coming thro' in driver aggression, it is what it is ..!
On 1 occaasion I was filling up the shed and a 'gentleman' in front of me was taking the piss to his girlfriend in his shiney new Mondeo 'supercar', and by coincidence I was in there 3 days later in the GT3, and who was in front of me, yup, same bloke, same chic, he looked at the floor and didn't seem to want to make eye contact for some reason while his chic was drooling at a real sports car.., naturally I smiled back as a polite 'gesture', this seemed to cause the driver immense distress and irritation, causing him to take off in a hurry and a squeel from his 175-SR-15 'bad boy tyres', for some unfathomable reason.. these situations balance the f
kwits in vans and the salutes..
Enjoy..

Last time I had it was in my C2S, from a guy in a 330 coupe BMW that I had unintentionally out dragged on a dual carriageway, causing him to back off and slot into the overtaking lane behind me.
We sat in a 5 min traffic jam at the next traffic island, but he gave the sign, arm fully extended out the window, as we were moving again and taking different exits - I was both surprised and slightly amused.
Also had some massive Yeti in a dodgy part of Worcester try to gob into a mates Boxster I was using, when I had the roof down - don't like convertibles now!

Ive had 5 porsches, boxsters, 996C4, 996C2, turbo and Cayenne, never had problem. Cant remember even once having the "coffee bean" wave or anything else for that matter. I know this wonderful world we live in has some "interesting" characters, but I cant imagine someone giving the salute or demonstrating distaste for no reason whatsoever. A friend of mine has a 997 and he has also never had an issue.
I had a 987 Boxster back in 2005 and took my then 6 year old daughter out for a spin with the roof down. White van driver just pulled up next to me in heavy traffic, I had only started the journey so had done no wrong....so far
, and just called me a w
ker.
What kind of cretin does that in front of little kids.

a different anecdote to my one posted in the Road Rage thread and less embarressing behaviour from me. I was in Derby city centre and queuing in some traffic when some bloke who looked like he had just left the set of Jeremy Kyle came right up to my window giving me the finger and every other hand gesture he could think of whilst using his full vocabulary of swear words. I'm not sure if it was the car or if you just knew me
You could always just pull them over and stick your phone on record on the sly then either;
1) Report it to the police and try and get them done for amusement value of your own
2) Use it as evidence of self defence when you end up having to give them a slap
On a more serious note though, I was once driving along with a couple of passengers in a golf plus diesel and an audi Q7 overtook me at high speed on the Armley bypass on the outskirts of Leeds but he also decided that whilst overtaking he would cut back in front of me extremely close to make me swerve. I flashed him and then he slammed on his breaks, got behind me then kept trying to nudge the bumper.
When I acted unperturbed (although I was getting worried by this point) he accelerated past and then did a full emergency stop to 0 to try and make us slam into him. Luckily I saw this coming, braked and went past on the other side of him. Even more annoyed he then accelerated up again and tried to side swipe me off the road twice with his final attempt being a side swipe emergency stop blocking covering both lanes of the dual carriageway - the cars all queueing behind didnt even beep as they clearly were worried at what they were seeing.
Anyway due to the build up of traffic he had to start moving again as there were too many witnesses for a violent confrontation on a halted dual carriageway (at 8pm on an evening) but as he was pulling off onto a slip road he launched a can / of coke at the window hoping to shatter it and sped off - thankfully it just splattered everywhere and didnt cause any serious damage.
Anyway my point is that theres some mental people out there and unless you want to get into a serious brawl its just sometimes not worth paying them any attention. This is coming from someone who has trained for over a decade in various martial arts as I've learnt that often the gobby pushover types are only being gobby because they are carrying something to give them that false bravado.
Also if you ever see someone with the registration BAZ32 then dont flash them either because they will try and swipe you off the road like a cock!

The one thing that I have never been a fan of on my CR is the logo down the side. Not because I don't like it but because I know that the sorts who do the salutes are the types who will see 'brash' not 'heritage' and will want to 'cut me down to size' as they see that as their station in life.
Never had anyone try and spit or throw anything at the car and hope I never do. In one way, it's helpful to read threads like this as I think you generally see the world through your eyes and as such I would never dream of endangering anyone on the motorway or driving with the intention of causing an accident. As such, I would not expect that of others.
Whenever anyone has done the pork salute to me with no provocation, I've always waved back as if they were a long lost friend. I always over exaggerate my thank yous when people let me into traffic or show me courtesy. If people have expressed an obvious interest in the car, I've always offered for them to take a closer look, particularly younger lads. At least I know by those actions, there are a few people who may reconsider that maybe all Porsche drivers aren't w
kers.

Tongue in cheek comment there tho', but it goes with the gist of the thread, and trust me it was funny at the time, very funny...!

I've had one nutter in 7 years of turbo then GT2 ownership. I think this is because:
a)I don't look at others so even if they are w
kering me I won't see it;
b)I enjoy driving the car so any grief is likely to be happening quite small in my rear view mirror.
SM
ps The nutter jammed on his brakes mid corner as I approached fastish through some turns, I wasn't close to him so wasn't caused by aggressive driving. As I moved to overtake (I could see it was clear) he swerved in front of me and stopped. We exchanged words and it turns out he decided I was going "too fast" and the best way of saving an accident/improving the overall safety on the road was to jam on his brakes and stop me in the middle of the road lol. I don't think this was anything to do with a Porsche, more to do with a mentally ill driver.

Never had a problem here either.It all pure jealously. I have had many 'Porsche salutes' from men but never women. In fact some milfs make a point in coming over to talk to you about the car at filling stations. So far it's the best pickup car I've had
Best of all the three blue eyed girls in my life really like the 911... And one even likes driving it
